The Boxing Thread (Sweet Science) - Mayweather vs. Maidana

Former undisputed middleweight champion Jermain Taylor, who has lost four of his last five fights, including three by crushing knockout, withdrew Tuesday from Showtime's Super Six World Boxing Classic.

Taylor was due to face super middleweight titleholder Andre Ward in the second stage of the modified round-robin tournament on April 17.

"I'm going to take some time off from the sport of boxing and take myself out of [the] Showtime Sports World Boxing Classic tournament," Taylor said in a statement. "It's important that I give my body and mind some much-needed rest, because I have been boxing for nearly 20 years. I plan on keeping myself in shape and making a return to the sport sometime in the future."
 
Mayweather is rumored to be leaning towards a fight with Nate Cambell of all people. Im not surprised at all. What a clown. Nate Cambell who was on his way to gettying slapped around by Bradley and quit on some bullshit. Not to mention he is another jr. welter.

about the Super Six spot...... Sakio Bika or Allan Green have to be the front runners at this point....... i dont think Andrade will be involved even though he is a showtime guy, and Bute is on HBO at this point..... so i think its one of those two unless Showtime can somehow get Chad Dawson to sign up which would be awesome for Dawson and the Classic......

i actually appreicate his style of fighting but his undercards are terrible, and i am almost certain this one will be also....Hopkins loves to be the center of attention and in this fight/card he certainly will be....... while i like Hopkins, i have ZERO interest in shelling out 50 bucks to see Roy Jones get knocked out again....
 
Not wanting to spend $50 to see one fight on TV is understandable. If it's on PPV over here it won't cost as much.
 
Bob Arum's company will promote 11 cards in the next 10 weeks. The marathon begins with an excellent HBO card in New York on Saturday night when featherweight titlist Steven Luevano defends against junior featherweight titlist Juan Manuel Lopez in the main event, and runs nonstop through a Fox Sports Net card on March 27. In all, there is one HBO card, one combo "Latin Fury"/"Pinoy Power" pay-per-view card, eight FSN cards and the centerpiece of it all: the Pacquiao-Clotty HBO PPV card. Top Rank matchmaker Brad "Abdul" Goodman is going to be awfully busy for the next couple of months.

Sergio Mora was on the Berto-Mosley undercard too, any news there?

If the Gamboa/Mtagwa fight this weekend is anything like the Juanma/Mtagwa fight late last year then we are in for an early FOY canidate. I watched that fight about 6 times and still cant believe Juanman survived. Should be a good double header though.

Sidenote: davie you are cool with me being a Hopkins fan. My fav boxer along with Mosley. I also like the Kahn, Bradley, Gamboa of course Pacman.

Khan - it will be interesting to see whether he continues fighting easy opponents now that he's signed with Golden Boy. Frank Warren has a history of protecting his fighters, but Freddie Roach also expressed that he didn't want Khan fighting his mandatory challenger Marcos Maidana.
 
My favorite boxer right now is Paul Williams... there are a ton of fighters i like to watch.... other boxers i am a fan of Pavlik, (even though he straight ducked my man Paul) Tim Bradley, James Kirkland, Andre Dirrell, Gamboa (if you dont like Gamboa you dont like combat sports) i like Chad Dawson, also like Arreola... i like Sergio Martinez after his fight with Paul Williams...... also a fan of the Peterson brothers... i think they will both hold world titles one day.... also love Michael Katsidis, dude is a warrior, if he is fighting i am watching..... period...

I dont think Freddy is willing to throw him to the Wolves just yet. They need to move him along slowly. He is only 23 so a year or 2 of fighting gate keepers and taking baby steps will do him some good. The negotiating period was extended for his Mandatory against Maidana. I wouldnt be so quick to throw him in the in with him. I only seen him in his fight with Ortiz and but was a beast. He has crazy power and will be there all night. I dont think Khan has the power to put him down like Ortiz. He would have to box and perfect fight. I dont want to see a repeat of the Prescott fight.

When is Kirkland set to get out? I hope dude has dome some reflecting while locked down. Would be a damn shame for his talent to go to waste. He and Paul Williams would be a good fight at 54 but Paul is just to damn long and will pose big problems for anyone under 5'10.

I to like the Peterson brothers but Bradley took Lamont to the woodshed. It was entertaining none the less. After the 3rd round it was all down hill for Lamont. I would like to see Anthony fight a Kastidis or even get a fight with Valero. I think Anthony would beat Valero handidly. I watched a handful or fights of Valero and anyone with decent techinical skill, lateral movement and a jab, could beat that dude. That said he is exciting to watch. I do believe both of them will be title holders some day though. I wouldnt mind seeing Khan in with Lamont.

Who who you all picking in the Abraham/Direll and the Froch/Kess fights? Both tough ones to pick but Ward has made it hard to pick against him with that clinic he put on.
