Figured I'd post this in here instead of making a new thread since this one is pretty much about the AFC West..
I'm torn on if I like Matt Cassel. He has really good numbers this year considering he was a career backup since high school - 59.5% 2074 yards 18TD 4 INT 96.2 QB Rating - but while watching him play you just get the sense that he doesn't believe he should be out there. For all the great passes he's made this year to Bowe, Charles and McCluster, there are these 3 and out drives where he throws it to a guy that is covered in the flats on 3rd on 6+ that just make you scratch your head..
Any quarterback would take those numbers and be happy. Any fan or coordinator would look at that from a 3rd year starter and say to themselves,"He's finally getting it." And maybe it is just so much of a shock to see Kansas City with a quarterback that is efficient and doesn't make too many horrible mistakes (forgetting him holding onto the ball too long in the game vs Denver and getting it stripped and returned for a TD), that I have to think something is wrong here. Maybe we finally found THE guy. Maybe I still hold onto those seasons when we had Montana in the mid-90s, the only time since I've been born that the Chiefs have had a good QB (Trent Green was a redzone nightmare of a QB, don't bring him up please), and put them on too high of a pedestal.
Anyway, the Chiefs are first in the West again thanks to the Oakland Jason Campbell's finally being what we thought they were, so I figured it was time to bring some pessimism back into the conversation. Is Matt Cassel for real or is he just benefiting from an offensive line that has clicked and a spectacular running game? Are those ridiculous 3rd down short throws his fault or just the playcall? Will Jamaal Charles win MVP? :shifty: I don't know. I'm excited and scared to find out.
