The Definitive Wrestling Pay Per Views

It was the culmination of an angle that lasted over one year. Hogan and Sting hadn't touched throughout that time and everything in WCW over that period was built on hyping the eventual Sting-Hogan match-up. The red hot nWo angle and Sting's transformation.

Of course, the match sucked donkey balls. Because Sting was out of action for that year (some surgery I believe), he wasn't in great shape. Hogan took upon himself to dominate most of the match for no good reason. Bischoff and company decided on the reverse screwjob ending which if done correctly, perhaps it would have been great. Instead, Nick Patrick for whatever reason counts a normal, steady pinfall and Hogan wins.

Bret Hart, who hadn't wrestled in WCW yet, runs down, says NOT AGAIN, punches Patrick out and restarts the match. Sting finally makes Hogan tap and WCW celebrates the changing of the tide.

Sure WCW had a hot however many months thanks to Goldberg in 1998, but just four months later...WWF made their move in overtaking them in the ratings.


If we're including shows for historical purposes, I don't see a reason not to include it. For WCW, it was an historic show.

If this goes in for historical significance, it goes in there more for what NOT to do and as an example of horrible payoffs, not to show the good side of wrestling.

As I said on the first post, only mentioned Starrcade 97 because of the negative effect it had on WCW. They were at their peak then and from that point on, the entire organization fell apart.

I do feel it is a big part of wrestling history...just not in the same way as some of the others...I guess the question is if you only want to show the "good" side of wrestling, or if you want to include stuff that shows what not to do, like this.

I wanted to make a list that was a best of the best and most important...my original meaning of important would have been on the good side of things...but, this is a group list, so, I am open to interpretation.

If you all think this is a must watch PPV, by all means, I'll throw it on the list.

Starrcade 97 is not a must watch show. However, it is definitely memorable. Even FT, a casual fan, instantly recalled the show. You can not tell the story of the history of wrestling without it, that we can all agree. Does it belong? I don't know. I was leaning yes, now I'm back in the middle. Two events from a really hot period where the WWE was putting out a lot of gold. These two events were very good, IMO.

However, not exactly significant or anything...but very good cards, IMO.

Well, they are two of the best PPVs from a very hot period in the E. I understand they may not necessarily be special, but top to bottom great cards, matches that delivered. I consider these two additions those "really good" throw ins that the WWE usually has on their DVDs to try and enlighten and show they aren't shallow showing just Hulk Hogan v. Andre the Giant at WMIII or having Shawn/Razor in a Ladder Match or Hart/Austin at WrestleMania.

I think the shows, as wrestling pay per views, are about as good as you'll get from the E top to bottom outside of X7, even though there may not be that one historical moment.
