A---.
I'm over critical of my team, because the last thing I will ever be fucking accused of is being a homer. That being said...
Would go B Grade but they are still 4-0 and Aaron Rodgers kicked it into another gear during the playoffs last year and hasnt so much as looked at the breaks. He is amazing right now and it feels really good to have people come up to me at the bar or at work and say things like "I can't beleive how good Rodgers is". Only QB I've seen play better is Brady, who is out of fucking control good this year.
The Defense this year is my biggest concern. Clay Matthews just hasnt been making plays, I don't see the passion and the "this might be my last play" intensity I saw last year. The secondary is a different unit without Tramon Williams in the game, he's easily the best player on D. Charles Woodson looked better last week, but the guy essentially is playing safety now. His instincts carry him and he's so smart he is able to make big plays. He's still the heart and soul of the defense, but he's not a shutdown corner anymore, he's a safety. I was absolutely scared shitless when Cam Newton came out making it look easy. I really expected GB to lose that Carolina game.
Morgan Burnett as a young stud? what the fuck are you smoking and where can I get some? losing Nick Collins hurts like a motherfucker. I am just hoping he can come back from the injury, but he said it will be 6 months before he even knows if he can play football again. Shit has Peyton Manning neck injury written all over it.
Still, Jordy Nelson has replaced Driver and is good for at least one "holy shit did that just happen" play a game. I would take Jennings over pretty much anyone other than guys with the last name of Johnson - Andre and Calvin are still better players in my eyes because of their ability to make chicken salad out of chicken shit. (BTW, they got Jennings with the pick they got for Javon Walker. that one worked out pretty fucking well). Jermichael Finley, despite my predictions, has managed to stay healthy and is showing everyone why he has had so much hype the last two seasons before getting hurt. The running backs are servicable, but Ryan Grant doesn't look the same. Rodgers Steve Young-esque feet makes the line look better than it is, although they have shown improvement.
Bottom line is as long as Rodgers is healthy there isnt a better team in the NFC right now. But the defense will be exploited in the playoffs especially after the inevitable injuries to another key player or two. The offense carries the team and they have an aura of "yeah bitch, we're the fucking Packers, you better hope you can keep up". You sort of expect a touchdown on every drive. I called McCarthy a glorified offensive coordinator for a long time, and maybe he still is, but he's really fucking good at being that, and knows how to get the most out of his guys. It's really good to be a lifelong Packer fan these days, I just think that, last year, the Defense sealed the deal and came on strong late with bench players earning starting gigs. This year, it's all on Rodgers, and I feel great about the next 10 years of Green Bay Football if that's the guy who is holding down the fort. They for damn sure need to go apeshit on the defense in the draft though.
This week at Atlanta is going to be huge. Matt Ryan was the better quarterback in the regular season last year. Matt Ryan also hasn't really impressed anyone since regular season last year. I still think he's the most overrated player not named Tony Romo, but if he can pull that shit off Sunday night, you will read endless columns about the chinks in the Packers armor all last week. Fuck the Lions, Thanksgiving is still 6 weeks away. Atlanta is the crucible because the Packers really haven't played a great team outside of N'awlins.
