I found these guys on Waffles a couple months back as a free release and really liked their sound. I don't know anything about them though
They were formed after the split of two great Welsh bands, Mclusky and Jarcrew, a few years back. Mclusky were quite well known with three excellent albums behind them while Jarcrew were a bit more local.
At first listen it is almost impossible to differentiate between Mclusky and Future of the Left mainly because both bands are dominated by singer/guitarist Andrew 'Falco' Falkous' unique songwriting and singing style and also because initially it just looked like Mclusky had replaced bassist Jon Chapple with Jarcrew's Kelson Matthias. To avoid this they refused, apart from very rare occasions, to play any Mclusky songs live.
Two brilliant albums followed 'Curses' in 2007 and 'Travels With Myself and Another' which was my album of the year in 2009. Live shows were known not only for their musical intensity but for the almost stand-up comedy style banter between Falco, Kelson and the audience.
Kelson left the band early this year after extensive touring and joined up with most of the members of Jarcrew in their new band Truckers of Husk (who are also worth a listen). Being almost impossible to replace with one person the band added a second guitarist, Jimmy Watkins, to handle the singing, jumping around and bantering and former Million Dead bassist Julia Ruzicka to wrestle with the monster bass sound, and providing something more pleasant to look at than the usual collection of hairy, sweating men.
New album and probably more extensive touring, including North America, to come next year.
If you like FOTL then you should definitely give Mclusky a listen especially the album 'Mclusky Do Dallas'. And keep an eye on the live dates.
Edit: and just as I was writing this I got sent this nice little Jarcrew/Truckers of Husk article.
