Great. I downloaded the beta earlier an was hoping to get a chance to play it Wednesday afternoon when I wake up.

I will never understand why the latest version of a game/demo/beta/etc is not incorporated in a download. And PS3 is the worst because the updates take forever.

Not a fan of 3rd Person shooters. Didn't like the last socom either. Heard the beta opens to everyone at the start of april tho so I'll give it a try

I think this one in particular has to do with Zipper's servers. I've always had a problem with the download speeds with the MAG patches. The download of the beta from the store was surprisingly quick today.

Also, if anyone doesn't know, you need to actually start the beta to download and install the main patch. The patch that will download with the auto-update feature for PS+ members is only the first of two. Zipper has their own automatic download and installation process after the game boots up. So if you were planning on just downloading the beta and playing tomorrow, you might want to start it up tonight and let it update to save the headache.

EDIT: Some quick impressions. I haven't played any of the previous SOCOMs. So, I have no clue how this stacks up. Not much, but this is what really stood out to me.

-The rolling spawns are interesting and a little annoying at the same time. I found myself surrounded by enemies when I accidentally wandered into their spawn a few times tonight. It's also a little disorienting when your spawn changes. Hopefully, the latter will diminish as I get acquainted with the two maps.
-The click R3 to switch to first person view was also a little annoying. I occasionally press in the thumbsticks on accident when I get into a firefight, and suddenly switching views makes it more difficult to track your target. I wouldn't mind if it was changed to holding down R3 instead.
-Throwing a grenade where you want it is not intuitive at all. It's going to take some practice to get it down.

Interesting. I was expecting a to download a large amount of data after installing the beta from the PS Store, but over three hours to download just under 1600 MB of additional data is a long ass time though. With DCUO, it took a while, but you were downloading a shit-ton of data.

Well it literally only took me like 30 minutes. I always hear people with issues regarding downloading on the PS3, but I have never had an issue. Only time I had issues with slow downloads was when my ISP topped their bandwidth at 12mbps. When they finally got their shit up(Now rocking a cool 30 mbps) I have never had a problem with slow downloads

I don't understand it either. I think I'm going to try putting my PS3 into a DMZ to see if it helps any in the future.

I'm the complete opposite. I'll take a 3rd person shooter over a 1st any day. You can see so much more around you.

I noticed that when I was downloading this and the Ghostbusters demo they were both going damn quick.

I do the same thing. I noticed recently while playing Dead Nation I'm consttanlt reloading in the middle of a tense section because reload is R3.

Ok, so the update "only" took 45 minutes which I guess is pretty good. Then I try to enter my first match and just have to sit and wait for the round to end. As I'm waiting I see a box pop up saying "Votes to kick you from games 1/5". It gets to 4/5 eventually but then tbe round starts. Two.seconds later I'm booted. Wtf?!?

Then I enter another game. I wait for the next round. Twenty seconds in I get shot in the back. Wait five minutes for next round. As soon as the nsxt round starts I take three steps, I shit you not, and get sniped!

Fuck this.

Twigg you have to change game style from Classic to the new one, that way you can play in respawn rooms.

I'd recommend joining a queue for a new game instead of a game already in progress, and as Buzzman said, get out of the classic modes. You only get one life in those matches with no health regen, and a lot of the guys camp their asses off too. Also, friendly-fire is always on, and you'll occasionally run into those assholes who get their kicks out of teamkilling. You'll also want to watch your fire.

Zipper is also rotating the game modes from day-to-day. Here is the game mode schedule until Monday:

� Wednesday (3/23) – Uplink, Classic Uplink, Suppression, Classic Suppression
� Thursday (3/24) – Last Defense, Classic Last Defense, Uplink, Classic Uplink

I don't mind the lack of respawns. That is what set SOCOM apart from other twitch shooters. But getting shot in the back seconds after a round starts and then getting snipped basically at the spawn is bullshit.

I accidentally teamkilled last night because I was having a hard time telling who was on my team and who wasn't. Only difference I could tell was the color of the sights.

There are two things that I use to avoid friendly fire:

-Teammates have a blue diamond over their head with their name. Sometimes it can be hard to see it if you look at certain angles.
-Uniforms and character appearances. Insurgents are either Asian or have solid green fatigues with a beret while Spec Ops usually have desert camo with a ballistic vest. There are also other variations in each team, but these characteristics describe most, I think.

Personally, I find knowing the uniforms more helpful, and that will come with some play time.

Does anyone know how to spot? I've noticed enemies pointed out on the screen, but I have no idea how it happens.

It always cracks me up when you finish playing bomb squad or uplink and there is always that one guy on the losing team talking about his k/d ratio. The one thing I have always loved about Socom is that the objective matters more than killing the other team.

Smoke grenades are the shit this time around. I was pissing the campers and snipers off last night because I was popping smoke everywhere. You really can't see shit when those things go off.

In Battlefield BC 2 I would always be near the top of the list in points because I was always capturing and defending objectives while most people were worrying about their damn K/D ratio.

This is why I'm always at the top of the KZ3 charts when we all play. I may have a 1:1 K/D ration, but I will have the most points.
