Great episode. Don't know if I'll end up getting as attached to these characters as I did to the guys in BoB.

I started to re watch Band of Brothers the other day. Been looking forward to this. Watching it now.

Still havent' seen BOB, was supposed to borrow it from my friend but I moved before I had a chance.

Anyway, I caught the first episode. Great stuff so far, really promising.

I thought the same thing. I'm hoping to be a filmmaker as well and my mind was similarly blown. Awesome camera work.

Suppose getting straight into the action would be good, but in a way that first episode of Band of Brothers was my favourite episode and was key to making it so awesome (to go along with the 3rd one), you literally saw the journey from basic training two years before D-Day to the weeks after Hitler blew his head off and bought an end to the war in Europe.

This more focuses on Three soldiers not a whole entire battalion like BoB. Eugene (one of the soldiers it will focus on) is still in America at this time without even being in the marines yet, so Im excited to see how that goes down. So far though I got attached to a few guys.

When that medic who was talking about the coconuts died from friendly fire I was like....damn.

I would have to agree the basic training in the first episode set up everyone you needed to know and with this group its a learn as you go

I don't know if a training episode would have worked in this series. The three main characters are spread out across different companies whereas BoB just focused on one company. It would have been too disjointed if they tried to show the training of all three characters. With Eugene Sledge still in America at the time of Guadalcanal, we could potentially see his boot camp/training whenever he enlists.

Agreed. The reason they showed the basic training in Band of Brothers was because of how tough their training was and how they became united in their hatred for Sobel. It was an important part in the book as well.

The Pacific is focused on three guys who kind of represent different aspects of young Americans at that time. Basilone is already in the military and is more experienced. Leckie is just an average guy who joined up. Sledge is the guy who has the spirit but not the body and is a guy you wouldn't think would be a Marine.

Anywho BOB is on HBO on Demand for anyone who's interested. I'm gonna watch it first and then catch up with The Pacific.

if you have Direct TV you dont even need HBO to watch it. Channel 101 shows it on Monday. Im so happy cause I dont have HBO.

I didnt have electricity, cable, water, or heat because of the storm that hit us so i had to go to my friends house to watch it. It was good from what i saw but my idiot friends were talking throughout the whole show and i really didnt retain anything from it. I hope theres a rerun that i can watch so i can understand what happened.

If you have an HBO subscription, I think HBO is putting the episodes online for you to watch. Otherwise, the link that GS posted earlier has some pretty decent quality streams of the episode.

Finally got to the 1st episode. Last 15 minutes of it were fantastic. Started kinda slow but really got into it.

I don't think this will touch SPR or BoB. After seeing the first episode, this group of actors just doesn't have the chemistry as in BoB.

Its different though. Band of Brothers focused on one company the entire time. This is going to focus on three guys who aren't with each other at all. So obviously with Band of Brothers they had to get actors who'd work well with each other. They could've probably done the same thing as Band of Brothers but decided not to and to do something different.
