The Caps 2004 draft might be one of the best in NHL history. Not only did they pick Alexander Ovechkin, but they also ended up with Mike Green and Jeff Schultz.
Also, in the year preceding the lockout, the Caps traded away their current players for picks (some of which were used to draft players listed above) and prospects. Two of the main guys they got were Tomas Fleischmann and Brooks Laich, who contributed a lot the past two seasons. Flash is no longer with the team, and another player, Shaone Morrisonn, was with the Caps up until this season.
George McPhee and the rest of the front office certainly have an eye for talent, but the edge goes to Nashville though. The funny thing about that is that McPhee was hired as GM for Washington after Poile was fired after a 15 year career with them.
Also heard some fairly disturbing rumours today.
Pittsburgh still has no timetable on crosby and there are whispers that they might shut him down for the season and playoffs. He tried skating last week and basically didn't last a lap around the ice before getting dizzy.
Colton Orr's situation is being described as career and life threatening. They are more worried about his quality of life right now and his career playing is not even a thought.
Marc Savard's situation is quietly being pushed aside right now (probably a good thing for the player) but not much is known about his condition outside of the bruins have shut him down for the year.

Devils are 9-0-1 in last 10, and 9 points out of a playoff spot. But I think this might be a little to little to late. Don't seem them coming back that much and getting into the post season. If they did would be one of the biggest turn arounds.
And has anyone really looked at the West? 6 teams are at 70 points going from 5th place to 10th place. That conference flops so much. Last time I looked, Minny, Chicago and LA were out and Calgary and Nashville were in. Now they are not. Sprint to the finish.

He's had pretty consistent stats over the past decade and is a better goalie than anyone that's played for Tampa since Khabilbulin. Mike Smith has been fucking complete trash since the start of the 09/10 season. Dan Ellis was barely any better.
In the end, they are exactly what they were (-1) when he came to Tampa Bay, so certainly not worse. I'd assume better if he had the whole year to be accustomed to how the defence is playing in front of him.
Either way, he's a better option that those two bums.
