Preseason Outlook:

Redshirts:

When it came to redshirts I redshirted all of the incoming freshman and the players who wouldn't of saw the field this year. My two most notable redshirts were CB Dominique Vinson (JR) and TE Crockett Gilmore (SO). Vinson is a very good player, but one of our strong points is at Cornerback, and I don't want to burn a year on someone who is only gonna be the Dimeback. Gilmore is good enough to be our starting Tight End, but we have two other players that are just as good as him. Just wanna get that extra year out of him.

Recruiting:

We have a lot of young depth on this team that will be able to takeover once the Seniors move on. I was just looking to target the best players that have Colorado State listed in their Top Five choices. I sorted my board by caliber, and moved guys around based on how I valued their interest. I'm pretty much recruiting my area with fourteen prospects targeted in Colorado and nine in Texas. Also have targeted four in Arizona, two in Kansas, and one in Utah, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Nebraska, Florida, and California respectively.

Schedule:

The annual Rocky Mountain Showdown was gonna be a given on the schedule. I wanted to schedule some quality teams that were in my recruiting region. I manged to schedule a home hame with Kansas in week two, and a home hame with Baylor in week eleven. I wanted to get some TV coverage, and I felt I could beat Kansas and Baylor, so this was a great match. The whole schedule is as followed:

Outlook:

I feel that anything other than making a Bowl game would be a failure. We have a good QB in Pete Thomas, a good RB in Chris Nwoke, a solid Receiving core and Offensive Line on Offense. We are weak along the Defensive line, but have a terrific back-seven lead by OLB Mychal Sisson. We will be running a pro style offense with a 50/50 split in the running and passing game. We will be running a 4-3 on defense.

Week One

Rocky Mountain Showdown
Colorado State (0-0) @ Colorado (0-0)​

Colorado was the considerable favorite in this game, and they lived up to it. We were leading 3-0 after the first quarter, but Colorado went on to score 23 unanswered scores, and win the game 30-10. Our Offense was alright considering we got 309 yards, but the Defense was absolutely horrific. Giving up 416 yards, 66% conversion rate on thirds downs (10-15), and not being able to get any redzone stops. (4-3-1). The penalties probably didn't also help seeing as we committed sixteen of them for 119 yards.

We were able to get some yards on Offense, but we were ineffective. We were only able to convert 47% of our third downs (8-17) and we could never get the ball into the redzone. We were split in the passing game and running game getting 158 yards passing and 151 rushing. The positives we can take out of this game is that we were able to run the ball effectively and we didn't commit any turnovers.

Week Two

Kansas (0-0) @ Colorado State (0-1)​

We were a slight favorite heading into our Home Opener against Kansas, and it looked like this was gonna be easy early on. We were up 17-0 at halftime with the help of a pick six by Austin Gray and a 28-yard TD run by Pete Thomas both in the first quarter. We then thought we were too good for Kansas and that's when they started to come back. They scored 10 points in the third quarter, and ended up getting a Touchdown at the end of the 4th quarter to force Overtime. Luckily, Chris Nwoke scored on our first possession, and then our Defense stopped Kansas to win the game 24-17.

Our running game was phenomenal, gaining 219 yards on 39 attempts for 2 TD's. The passing game was the opposite of that, turning the ball over twice and only completing 39% of our passes. The pass defense was excellent this week, only allowing 91 yards through the air and grabbing two interceptions. We were also able to convert four turnovers in total. The rush defense was terrible, giving up 215 yards on 47 attempts and a touchdown. We still need to do a better job converting third downs. We had the exact same numbers this week as we did last week in that department. We were at least able to get into the redzone this week, but we need to be able to score from there next time (3-1-0). Penalties were drastically improved from last week (6-30).

Week Three​

Colorado State (1-1) @ Oregon State 1-0)​

Our opening game in the Northwest conference was fairly competitive up until the end of the third quarter. The game was tied at ten before the Beavers went on a 13-0 at the end of the third into the fourth quarter. We were making a comeback at the end of the game, but Pete Thomas threw a pick six, and ended any chance of that. Oregon State went on to win the game 30-16.

Pete Thomas was terrible this game, completing only 34% of his pass and throwing two interceptions. The passing game has been mediocre all year, which is going to bring the change to a more run heavy offense. The two best skill players are my RB's, so it would probably be best to put the ball in their hands. It will be a 55-45 split for now, but could eventually change to 60-40 depending on how we play. We will also be playing a lot more aggresive on both sides of the ball from here on out.
