Alan Shearer is the new NUFC boss
I'm still wondering if its an April Fool's joke...
What I find interesting is that Shearer has held off in the past because of the problems that permeate the entire Newcastle club management structure. I don't know that a change in manager is going to overcome that. It might be enough to keep them from getting relegated... but no guarantees on that.

My hope is that Shearer is such an NUFC legend that the players start to care and we can avoid relegation.

I just hope Shearer coming in inspires the players some , when you look at it the 3 vital games to win are , Fulham , Portsmouth and Boro all at home. If Shearers appointment inspires the players half as much as us fans it might just be enough to keep us up.

My guess? If they stay up, he looks the hero who came in and turned it around and saved Newcastle, thus building his own legend. If they go down, the club was in too much turmoil and even great legend Shearer couldn't save them.
That's rather cynical, but its a no lose situation for him. Whereas if he has the team for a whole season and they suck, that blame falls very much at his feet

I saw France-Lithuania on Setanta. They didn't have any announcers for the game, which was awesome. Lithuania played tough but Benzema, Henry, and Ribery broke through near the end to score a goal and win 1-0.
The Scotland-Iceland game was entertaining at the end. Scotland was clinging to a 2-1 lead, and Iceland had their best chances to score but were blocked consecutively by the faces of the Scottish goalkeeper and defender. Gudjohnsen looked good.

i don't know how many people follow the lower leagues, but I am a huge Championship fan. Unfortunately it looks as if one of those clubs may be closing up shop. Southampton, a club with a long history, is 30 mil GBP in debt and has been placed in Administration. The creditors have warned that unless a buyer is found quickly, this will probably be the last season ever for it. In fact, they warn the club may not make it to the end of the season. If they do, they are still second bottom, though they avoided a 10 pt deduction from the league.
The other big story I am following is that of Luton Town. They are currently bottom of League 2 after a 30 pt deduction, but if they can go on a blazing hot run, could feasibly escape relegation out of the league. They have already made the Johnstone's Paint Trophy Final, so they still have some chance at silverware, even if they do play in the Blue Square next season. Their fans got jobbed by silly rules when it comes to Administration, so I hope they can come right back up. I believe only two go down/come up, so that does make it a bit tricky
