The streak ends at 297...Favre inactive

There were several road games during the Gehrig streak where Gehrig was sick/injured and lead off the top of the first inning. If he reached base he was immediately removed for a pinch runner, and if he made an out he was immediately removed in the bottom of the inning by a defensive replacement.

All of these iron man streaks are retarded and a product of ego/stubborness.

Yep, and they mean as much as a perfect attendance record in school. I do not find it impressive that Favre chose to jeopardize his team's success by playing hurt time and time again. Am I really to believe the that Favre's team was better off all those times he went out there with a debilitating injury?

But back to the Gehrig/Ripken thing ... I thought it was "games played" not games started, and you had to last past the 5th? The only reason I ask is because the Orioles either chose to, or had to, wait until after inning 5 to start the celebration for Cal on game 2131.

They waited until the 5th, because that's when the game became official. Would have been embarrassing to have a ceremony, then have the game rained out in the 3rd inning.

You can pinch hit, pinch run, or just play a half inning in the field. It's still a game played and counts towards a streak.

I know your a stat guy but I have to ask, were all those Gehrig/Young facts off the top of your head?

I have to give Farve credit as far as being a QB, to take as many snaps as he has over all these years, and continue to play effectively for the most part, injured or not. He was always relevant, he could throw a TD as easy as he could a pick. I think if anyone is going to beat that streak it will be Manning, but he has a long way to go. Other than that this streak could be be in the Cy Young wins category for football, IMO.
