Im no historian but Gehrig had to stop because he was basically falling apart. He played through fractures and eventually played through a deadly illness.

If he was perfectly healthy and his streak ended on a beaned ball or hammy...I doubt any of these iron man streaks would mean anything to anyone.

I guess I missed the part where Gehrig was getting driven into the turf by 300 pound men 15-20 times a game. The streak is impressive but contact in baseball is the exception rather than the norm and when that contact does occur it is rarely meant to cause physical harm.

LOL @ taking the position that baseball is more physically demanding than football. The average baseball player lasts 6.85 years in the majors and the average NFL career is 3.5 seasons and that's not because the NFL players just decide they don't like playing football anymore.

Go check the QB hit stats on NFL.com if you want to do your own research. The Vikings were around the top 5 in hits allowed the last time I checked.

I'm not the one that made the claim. Substantiate your "stat" with something...anything...

Right now the Vikings are 5th or so in the NFL at 77 QB hits...in 13 games. Which is just under 6 a game. Care to tell me where the other 9-15 per game are at that Favre was facing every week for the last 19 seasons? So far you are only off by 2,500-4,000 total hits!

Troll city. Who the fuck cares if he was hit 1,800 times or 2,500 times, you get the point. If it's more than a couple of dozen, it's more than Gehrig, Ripken or any other baseball player not playing catcher ever took. In a league where the average career is 40 games due to the violence of the sport, Favre never missed a start in in 297 (321 including playoffs) games and won more games than any other QB in the history of the league and broke every meaningful record.

If he had been the QB of anybody on here's favorite team, you'd have been damn happy to have had him under center. With the exception of bucky, of course, who yearns for the Lindy Infante days of Packer glory that proceeded Favre's arrival.

Nobody is saying baseball is more physical than football ... Obviously a contact sport will be more punishing than a non contact sport ... but baseball players have no rest. They get up every day and have a game. Don't underestimate that.

First off, that is a retarded statement. Secondly, level of danger is not how I measure the impressiveness of a streak. Fatigue sets in whether you are playing a "dangerous" sport or not. But I guess Evil Knievel's consecutive stunt streak trumps Favre's and all others because of all the danger involved.

I still have to laugh that you think Favre was going through full contact practices during the season (or any other time for that matter).

I don't overrate Starr. All you have to do is look at the playoff performances. I saw what both could do. I watch Starr play clutch in playoff games and I watched Brett make some real bonehead throws at critical times.

As great as he was, he was pretty average in the playoffs. He was the exact opposite of clutch in the playoffs. Still loved having him in GB.
