NEW YORK -- Los Angeles Dodgers starter Hiroki Kuroda would consider waiving his no-trade clause if he were traded to the New York Yankees or Boston Red Sox, according to a baseball official with knowledge of the situation.

There is a common perception that Kuroda only wants to remain in Los Angeles, but the official said that is a "myth" and Kuroda will consider his options, if dealt. ESPN The Magazine's Buster Olney reported on Sunday that Kuroda has not ruled any team out in his discussions with the Dodgers related to his no-trade clause, and so the Dodgers will take the offers to him on a case-by-case basis.

The Yankees showed interest in Kuroda this offseason. Yankees general manager Brian Cashman never could offer Kuroda a contract because he was waiting on Cliff Lee to make his decision. By the time Lee signed with the Philadelphia Phillies, Kuroda was off the market. Kuroda, 36, leads the National League in losses, but his 6-12 record is deceptive -- his ERA is 3.19.

In his last six starts, Kuroda is 1-4 with a 2.89 ERA. For the season, the Dodgers are averaging fewer than three runs per game in Kuroda's starts. In his fifth season with the Dodgers, Kuroda is an overall 34-42 with a 3.52 ERA.

The Yankees have faith that his stuff could work in the American League East. They would like to a land a top-of-the-line starter, but so far have found the market thin.

The Colorado Rockies are listening on Ubaldo Jimenez, but Rockies GM Dan O'Dowd is looking for a "Herschel Walker-type" trade, making it unlikely the Yankees would make such deal. If O'Dowd's demands come down, the Yankees could be players.

The Yankees are willing to give up top catching prospect Jesus Montero in the right trade, but are less inclined to trade any of their top young pitchers.

Ivan Nova -- who's won eight major league games -- was demoted to Triple-A even though the Yankees still have big expectations for him. Nova could be back by Saturday to start one end of the day-night doubleheader against the Baltimore Orioles.

Double-A Trenton starters Dellin Betances and Manny Banuelos are two pitchers that Cashman likely won't trade unless it is for a big-time starter.

Since Lee spurned the Yankees, Cashman has wanted to add a No. 2 starter. Right now, the Yankees have a certified ace in CC Sabathia. After that, it is uncertain whom manager Joe Girardi would start in a potential postseason Game 2.

A.J. Burnett, Bartolo Colon and Freddy Garcia would be the candidates. Phil Hughes, who starts Wednesday, is now fighting for his spot in the rotation.

If Hughes pitches poorly again, Nova could reclaim Hughes' place full-time.

Kuroda in the Bronx would be an interesting move. I could see it going either way in this division.

The likelihood for Devin Mesoraco to become the next Dioner Navarro is at 85%, the next Jeff Mathis at 65%.

Either way, the likelihood of this kid being a stud, especially when you have two other highly regarded catchers in the system makes no sense to not trade him for a known commodity IF you are trying to make a legit run this year.

So yeah, anyone who gives up prime prospects for that guy is lost. You'd be better served using those parts for a better player, or letting the kids develop and see what happens.

If you go to the World Series and win it and Ubaldo is apart of the rotation that got you there, you don't care who you give up.

The Marlins gave up Adrian Gonzalez (a premier prospect) many moons ago for UGGIE URBINA (a good but not great relief pitcher)...and there isn't a single motherfucker in Miami that would ever re-do that trade. They take Uggie and smile. Gonzalez is one of the best 1B and players in all of baseball and Uggie is in jail somewhere.

However, Uggie was vital to winning the World Series for the Marlins. They don't win it without him so no one would ever re-do that trade.

Prospects in baseball are overrated commodities when it comes to value.

Heard this on a BA podcast a while ago. Most teams "Top 10" prospects on any given year has on average 6 pitchers. 1 of those on average, is good enough to be a low end starter (never mind a premier starter). 1 will become a reliever if not already of varying quality. The other four will max out at AAA or less and never be heard from again.

Ubaldo may not be an elite pitcher and might be second tier, but if you are making a playoff run, I take Ubaldo over a catcher and a minor league pitcher, especially when you have a lot of catchers and a lot of arms that are highly regarded.

Just like these teams getting cheap on Beltran. Do you want a guy that will come in and solidify a position for you, if even for a two month rental? If yes, give us something. If you want to get cheap...bye.

The Braves in this case are particularly dumb because they have a PLETHORA of pitching talent that will surely never be used.

Maybe its because the Mets are a divisional rival, but at the end of the day, sometimes you need to dance with the devil to put you over the top.

But it's not a C and a minor league pitcher. The deal in question was the catcher (Mesoraco), Aroldis Chapman, and Chris Heisey....plus others. GTFO, that trade is terrible, and is the precise reason the Rockies are having so much trouble unloading this guy.

I wouldn't even do Chapman & Heisey, let alone throwing in Mesoraco and other pieces. If you are going to trade guys of that caliber, you need more back than Ubaldo f'n Jimenez, regardless of how much you value prospects.

I'm not convinced Ubaldo is any better than Bailey moving forward.

Ubaldo: 4.20 ERA, 1.336 WHIP, 2.47 k/bb

Bailey: 3.67 ERA, 1.190 WHIP, 2.63 k/bb

Ubaldo is also two years older and is more expensive.

The Rockies are asking for players who are better than the guy they are giving up. Again, they aren't serious about moving this guy. They are hoping someone overpays, and I hope it won't be the Reds. He's not an ace.

Starting pitching is VITAL to a playoff run, even more so the deeper you go. Every starting pitcher is magnified times ten. Every reliever times 50.

I'm just saying, if the Reds, or ANY team is looking to upgrade for a pitcher, some prospects, unless you're really hard up for them, should not stop you from getting that pitcher.
