You should read them. While you can get some of the bigger points from the show, there is a reason why the comics were so popular that they made a show from it. I wouldn't say that are better or worse than the show because different people like different stuff, but they are different and that can be a good thing.

If you have six hardcovers, that is the first 36 comics. In comparison, the show is about on the 12th comic and covers about six per season. You could basically see ahead to season six, although I think they will start condensing soon.

Ok, but what I was really trying to find out is if those books cover every comic that has been released thus far or have there been new ones since?

First, those six hardcovers are actually 72 books, not 36. I mixed up the paperbacks and hardcovers. The paperback tradebooks have 6 issues per, the hardcovers have 12.

Right now, there are 94 issues of the comic. You won't have all of them, but you will have a sizeable amount that should last you a while.

I was of the understanding that whenever anyone dies, they become a zombie, regardless of if he came in contact with a zombie.

that was my thinking as well, and i'd imagine that the doctor told rick that everyone is infected, it's not a bite that does it. i read that it should be explained in the final episode this season what the doctor said.

but then if rick was told everyone is infected why wouldn't he tell shane that when they spot the cops who are zombies with scratches, that it's not actually a bite or scratch that turns you, its just death itself.

Because he knows that if he tells anyone that that they will all just freak out and have nothing to live for.

I always postulated that the doctor was just telling Rick that his wife was pregnant, but I guess not.

If Rick knew don't you think he would have put one in Shane right away rather than let him turn? He obviously still cared about the guy which as evidenced by his emotion while stabbing him.

And if he knew why would he have ever turned his back and gone to Carl and not just told Carl to GTFO because uncle Shane was about to wake up hungry?

But if I focus on plot incongruities with this show I could give myself a brain aneurysm so I just look forward to next week and the first zombie swarm in what seems like forever.

Yeah, that's what trips me up...I like the theory of this being the secret that the doctor told Rick, but if it's true then surely he would've shot Shane in the head after offing him.

My feeling after the show were that everyone is infected, and death now means you become a zombie. But the theories presented with Shane's knife are intriguing. Guess we'll just have to wait and see.

i think you answered your own question as to why he didn't put one in shane, he was caught up in the emotion of it all and just forgot to pop shane.

i mean he did make sure to go right up to the fat boy in the bar and put one in his head, so it's possible he did know.

That's what someone brought up when I mentioned that to him. I'm almost positive the one guy was in the head, didn't remember the other but that makes sense.
