Let's consider some of the options available when he got the hacksaw: (1) cut through his wrist, (2) cut through the cuffs, or (3) cut through the bar to which the other end of the cuffs was attached. I'll say 1 is my last resort considering that I could die due to loss of blood, and there's a potential to attract more zombies due bleeding. If 2 can't be done, I'd move to 3. You know the hacksaw was in pretty good shape considering who it belonged to. So 2 or 3 seem feasible and preferable to cutting off my hand if I was in that situation.

Now, Merle didn't seem like the brightest of guys, so reasoning kind of goes out the door for him, and I can see why he would have jumped to the quickest of the three options I listed. The interesting part in all of this is how he could get down from the roof with one hand. It would have to be tough to try to climb down a ladder/fire escape with only one hand. The helicopter, perhaps?

This show is fucking awesome!!! I never heard about it until a week ago, then i watched the first episode on the AMC website and was instantly hooked. I dont get AMC so I dl the two episodes and they are awesome. That fucking chinese guy is hillarious. I loved when that cop kicked the shit out of that hick who beat his wife
 
New episode was great, I'm kind of wondering where that guys brother is. Dude is a fucking man for what he did to his hand.
 
I jumped on the bandwagon a little late. I honestly thought the zombie genre was getting a little played out over the years.

But after watching all the episodes, despite alot of zombie movies and media all with the same forumula (Yes I know this was based off a comic book), this show is literally OUTSTANDING. The cinemotgraphy and the acting is all incredible. The pacing has you on the edge of your seat, with a good balance of action and human morale background stories kind of like Battlestar Galatica.

This show is great. You are so caught up in the characters, it's episode 3 and I don;t even think i've even wanted to answer the question of how the zombies came to be..lol. The show is that good where you are just caught up in the moment of whats going on with the people. With all the possibilities, the sky is the limit for this show.

Last nights episode you are so caught up to see if they would get the ammo bag, then bam out of nowhere you see the huge obstacle they have. Great stuff.
