Tim Tebow had a completion percentage of 46.5% last year. He's a short list of quarterbacks who have outperformed him in that category in recent years.

Curtis Painter, Jon Skelton, JaMarcus Russell, Tyler Thigpen, Seneca Wallace, Cleo Lemon, Brodie Croyle, Vince Young (in Tennessee), Andrew Walter, J.P. Losman, Gus Frerotte, Aaron Brooks, Brooks Bollinger, Mark Brunell, Ken Dorsey, Kordell Stewart, Joey Harrington, Chad Hutchinson, Ryan Leaf, and Charlie Batch.

I had to go all the way back to the 2000 regular season to find a worse completion percentage. Akili Smith, Cincinnati, 44.2%. FOR ELEVEN SEASONS, EVERY SINGLE QUARTERBACK IN THE NFL COMPLETED MORE PASSES THAN TIM TEBOW.

Jets’ trade for Tebow hits a snag, could be voided, Rams may get him

Tim Tebow may not become a New York Jet after all.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the Broncos and the Jets have encountered a hangup in the language in Tebow’s contract that could nullify the trade. Schefter cites a Broncos source as saying the hangup could keep the trade from happening.

The contractual issue apparently arises from a clause in Tebow’s contract that could require the Jets to pay up to $5 million to the Broncos. The Jets may refuse to do that.

If this turns out to be a serious enough problem that the Tebow-to-Jets deal cannot be completed, then Tebow would go back on the market and the Broncos would try to find a new trading partner.

According to Schefter, the Rams may be that new trading partner, and Tebow could be shipped to St. Louis if the deal with the Jets falls apart. It’s not clear whether Tebow would prefer the Rams or Jets, or if he’ll have any say in the matter at all.

At the moment, the deal is Tebow and the Broncos’ seventh-round pick for the Jets’ fourth- and sixth-round picks. We don’t yet know what the Rams would be willing to give up for Tebow.

It matters no matter what system you're in. I don't care if you have the greatest backfield in NFL history. The amount of plays you pass takes away from the amount of plays that you run the ball. And if you're averaging success on less than half of those pass plays, you've got major issues.

For example, when the Broncos would run Tebow on first down for 4 yards, then on second down for 2 yards, followed by an incompletion on third down and a punt, that is an identical result to a traditional offense completing two short passes, going incomplete on third, and punting. Tebow is 0%, the traditional QB is 66%. Who cares?

The Broncos offense generally tried to throw the ball on 3rd & long, or to exploit an over committing defensive front. Otherwise, it was run run run. Clock control, field position, first downs. That's what mattered in the offense the Broncos were running, that's how efficiency was measured by the Broncos last year, and Tebow ran that offense very, very effectively (and the results are the proof, can not be argued).

This is why Tebow was able to have games where he would be 8 for 20 passing, yet the offense was perfectly efficient and the team won. Then all of the geeks would run to the boxscore and say 'herp derp 40% he can't play', completely ignoring the fact that Tebow himself ran for 80 yards, produced 2 total TD's, didn't turn the ball over, and led an offense that controlled the clock for 40 minutes.

That's why I say, in that scheme, 40% doesn't really matter. If Tebow was asked to run a traditional offense, yes, i'd be right with you guys, as I don't think he can do that. But who cares? HE WASN'T ASKED TO RUN A TRADITIONAL OFFENSE! As long as you let him run a spread option, the completion percentage remains irrelevant in comparison to completion percentages of QB's in traditional schemes. This is why I can not take the completion percentage criticism seriously, without the context of how the offense was designed to operate.

Of course you would prefer him to be in the 60% range. If he was able to that, he'd be pretty much unstoppable and Manning would be playing for the Titans. There is so little room for error in his play style, that he's probably best suited as a backup. But to say he didn't play well because of some nonsense like completion percentage, is just lazy analysis and not understanding how the stat correlates to efficiency in the scheme he was running.

While I generally agree with the above I think people are using the completeion percentage as the larger issue of Tebow not being accurate at all. He doesn't throw an accurate ball. It kills the effeciency of an offense. Which I guess you can say doesn't matter but I say it matters a hell of a lot and I think we already saw the league catching up to Tebow late in the year last year as a full time starter. (1-4) in his last 5 games. Dude is just a piss poor passer. There's not much way around it. He's interesting as hell to watch and if he could fine a team just running his package he will be fine. As a full time NFL QB..............it'd be ugly..and in a hurry.

I would love for the Rams to end up with Tebow, the team could use the juice, there has been no excitement for years. You can put together some packages for him, and if it turns out Bradford is really more 2011 than 2010, you can inject Tebow into the starting lineup for some TebowTime.

If not the Rams, i'd like to see him go to the Jags, where he can start. I'm fascinated by him as a player and can't get enough.
