Tony Gonzalez to the Falcons?

The Falcons are reportedly interested in trading for Chiefs TE Tony Gonzalez.
The National Football Post's Michael Lombardi says the Falcons are "seriously considering" the option, with their second-round pick as bait. Chiefs chairman Clark Hunt is attached to his franchise icon, but he might be convinced to part ways as the team rebuilds.

Legit rumor? ATL fans, have you guys heard anything about this? Anyway, discuss.

The only reason I can imagine Atlanta would only give a 2nd rounder for him is because of his age...

but that brings the question to me... Atlanta's offense is fine as it is, they don't need some great tight end when they could probably grab a solid on in the draft if they don't already have one that can't fit the bill, I would imagine that Atlanta would be more worried about finding a safety or some D-line help.

Gonzalez is probably better than anybody you'd get with the 55th pick in the draft. The Chiefs wouldn't do it for anything less than a 2nd, imo.

Yeah, Atlanta's offense would be disgusting with Gonzalez.

I don't think Tony G's age is a big deal because his play hasn't slipped at all. He might only play for a couple more years, but he has no injury history, and he's always in phenomenal condition, so he could play for 3-5 more years if he feels he has a chance at a Superbowl.

I'm not worried about his age at all. We need some more veteran leadership on our team anyways, especially since Brooking and Milloy is gone. Falcons fans, don't forget we were probably going to draft a TE in the 1st or 2nd round anyways. Like I said earlier, I'd rather have Tony G rather than a bust or a TE that will take years to fully develop (Do we really need another Jamaal Anderson like player? :laugh. The offense with TG would be sick.

LOL are you kidding? I'd take this over drafting Pettigrew in the 1st round, or any other TE we'd take later. I don't even like Tony G, and I'd be jerking it as soon as this trade goes official.

Cornelius Ingram is the hybrid WR/TE type. He fits the mold of a fast pass catching TE like a Dallas Clark. Obviously only time will tell how good he will be, but his body and skills are definately worth the risk.

I like Ingram, but he'd be a reach in the 2nd round. He'll still be around in the 3rd...maybe the 4th.

we would be dumb to give up a 2nd rounder for a TE that has at most 3 years left.Maybe if we get 2 players from them i'd do it.But a 2nd rounder is too much.We need defense anyway,and i think we would draft D with that pick in the 2nd.We need to just draft a late round TE and let him develop.

Matt Ryan is going to be gunned for this season, same thing happened to DA last season. Teams were not prepared for Anderson, he succeeds, they try the same thing the next season and Anderson looks like garbage. Not saying Ryan is an Anderson, just saying teams are going to look closer at him now. That being sad having a TE with ridiculous hands is a nice check down/dump if Ryan has to get rid of the ball and doesn't have time for the deeper pass. Tony G can do this for him, I like the fit.

I dunno it just doesn't seem to fit with how atlanta is building their team, they seem to want to build young talent around Ryan that he can have for years, Tony G is prob only gunna play 1 more season, 2 tops

If its Tony G for a 2nd straight up then I see the Falcons trading the 24th for some extra picks in the 2nd. Unless Cushing or someone else at the top of their board is still there.

Can't forget the fact that Alge flamed out in Tennessee.

In my opinion the Falcons would instantly become a top (or even elite) offense in the game with the addition of Tony G. They can still get some defensive help in the draft, and a 2nd rounder isn't a lot to give up for a potential Hall of Fame TE (I say potential, because you never really know how the voting will go).
