IDK what makes you think Activision is going to stop making COD games when the series has been so successful for such a long time. The companies that make shooter games want that online community to be satisfied at this point with so much money coming in from map packs and other DLC that they don't want to tweak the games to the point they piss those hardcore fans off. Reach sold a ton but really turned off a large portion of the community because the online portion added a bunch of new abilities and they added bloom to the weapons. The big name shooting game companies know they don't need to change much up to sell, most of their user base is aware the game will be just a slightly upgraded version of the last one but that's ok because they tend to play that game until the next installment comes out.

im saying i dont like it. arguing the point of profitability of laughable because its so blatantly obvious. its like asking why did the chicken cross the road. Activision obviously makes money off the game which is why they are able to put out a new copy each year. Its the model developers use now. EA has been doing it since the 80ies with all their sports games.

its also the problem with the industry. Instead of getting new IPs we get the EA Madden/Activision COD model for gaming development.

I dont really see a problem. If the new Watch Dogs game is AWESOME....I will want to play a sequel and another and another.

Just Like Assassins Creed....1 was ok and you could see the potential (it did sell well). 2 was awesome and I heard Brotherhood is even better. Revelations was the conclusion to the story but I heard it was nothing new. Now I cant wait to play 3!

So with that success Ubisoft is introducing a new IP Watch Dogs.

Naughty Dog made 3 Uncharted games and are now moving on to The Last of Us.

Quantum Dream made Heavy rain and is now making Beyond.

Turn 10 made 4 Forza games and is now making a spin off game (which looks meh)

Gearbox made Borderlands and is now making Borderlands 2 and I expect a 3rd game next Gen until they move on.

You create a new successful IP (which is hard) then build on it until you have enough money and come up with another new idea. You are right, games are too expensive to make and you cant just make a bunch of shit like they did back in the NES and SNES age and hope one works out. If a new IP is sucessful expect to see it for years to come....or even decades.

The indie and arcade market is the market for alot of new IPs...as mentioned. IMO I don't see a real problem with it.

Hah, sorry man. But remember, I didn't gush over Skyrim either. I loved it at first but I found the game to be very shallow and kind of pointless. Amalur definitely has better combat and a better story, but it has some of the same issues as well (it is very easy to become basically invincible and that made any interest that I had in leveling up or further developing my character kind of fly out of the window).

I have an unpopular opinion of Skyrim, and I would say both games are probably a 4 out of 5 for me at best. Good games, but not great. At this point too, I might even say a 3 out of 5 and be comfortable with it.

i could see how you would feel that way about skyrim. shallow and pointless is a good description.

i watched the gamespot review and they give it a 7.5 but say that if battle, looting and customization are your thing that u would like it. those are my thing so i will see how it goes.
