Sidenote: Whoever takes Davone Bess in my fantasy football league will be publicly shamed by me for at least the next 6 months.

I wouldn't take Bess before rounds 13 to 15... where the true sleepers sleep.

Steve Smith (of the Giants, obviously) shouldnt be considered a fantasy sleeper. he was one of the best receivers in the NFL last year. thats like calling Sidney Rice or Miles Austin a fantasy sleeper.

Speaking of Sydney Rice... When doing a FF mock on ESPN.com yesterday he was graded as a 6th or 7th round pick. WTF? Is that all based off speculation over whether Favre returns or not? I'd still pick him around there without Favre.

I've been saying that all along.

Bess has had a better start to his NFL career than Welker did. With Bess primarily in the slot I think he'll build on his solid 2009 season and emerge as one of the best slot WRs in the NFL while continuing to be a sure thing on third downs.

What looked like a real weakness last year is now one of Miami's strong points. Marshall, Hartline, Bess, Camarillo. That's a pretty good WR core. Now if only Fasano/Haynos/Sperry/Nalbone can become a sure target at the TE spot.

Let's not forget all this is assuming Chad Henne has a better season this year.

You basically said it.

The reason why Welker was amazing that season, was because Brady and Moss were amazing. It's the same reason Brandon Stokley was amazing when Manning threw 49 TD's.

Bess may be "Welker like" as a player.. but not in fantasy football because Chad Henne would be lucky to throw for half the TD's Brady and Manning did in their respected record breaking seasons.

Smith only had 107 receptions (2nd NFL), 1220 yards (8th NFL) and 7 TD (T-20th NFL) last season.

He had more receptions and yards than your boy Brandon Marshall.

Smith was a better WR than Marshall last year and definitely one of the better WRs in the entire NFL last year.

Stats > talent.

Everyone in the NFL has talent. The only thing that matters is production.

Last year Marshall missed the last game of the season and had a slow start to the season. Idk if the slow start was because of what happened in that off-season or if McDaniels slowly worked him into the offense. But despite all that he still wound up with 101 catches.

If you try to put together a list of all the CB's that can cover Marshall 1 on 1 all game and not get beaten for over 100+ yards I think maybe Revis. When you think about the same for Steve Smith the list is definitely more than 1.

Also in the thread about Miles Austin everyone kept saying 'he's not top 10, he's not top 10. He had only one good season.' How can a bunch of people say that about Miles Austin but then you look at Steve Smith in comparison and the same is true but he's somehow one of the best WR's. Marshall has been the better WR for the past three years.

Then you also look at QB's. Eli Manning vs Kyle Orton... Is it even a comparison? Giants fans think Eli's top 10 while Orton won't ever be sniffing that discussion nor will Chris Simms for that matter...

I think it's ridiculous to look at all of it and somehow say that Steve Smith is better than Brandon Marshall. I think thats ludicrous

Nobody is saying that Steve Smith is more talented than Marshall. I think everyone agrees that Marshall is more talented than Steve Smith. The point is that Smith had a better year statistically and was one of the best WRs in the league last year in terms of production so he is not a fantasy sleeper - which this thread is about.

And Steve Smith is not some slouch. Guy runs great routes, has great hands, has great WR IQ and speed to boot (4.4 at the combine). I think he clearly established himself as the #1 WR for the Giants last season and that was his first opportunity at that spot. I expect more of the same from him this year.
