Trent Richardson to Colts

Make no mistake. Trent Richardson is the colt's starting tailback.

I dont think anyone is making that mistake...the question is that is he a good starting HB?

Week 6 - Richardson 24 (10/40) / Brown 24 (3/15)
Week 5 - Richardson 47 (18/56) / Brown 17 (6/37)
Week 4 - Richardson 55 (20/60) / Brown 13 (3/65)
Week 3 - Richardson 29 (13/35) / Bradshaw 38 (19/95) / Brown (3/25)

Richardson is averaging 3.1 yards per carry, has been out rushed in two of four games by a teammate and has tied or been in less snaps than another rusher in two of four games.

There is nothing special about Richardson at all. Nothing he showed in Cleveland did...and now in Indy...he's just a JAG. Numbers that any ol back could probably put up in the same offense. You have runners in the same offense getting equal or more time and runners doing better with less carries than Richardson. Same offense.

I am curious what gives ThunderHorse the idea that what is holding Richardson back is his lack of understanding of the playbook and rapport with the offensive line. Richardson is doing the same thing he was doing in Cleveland.

Cleveland with Richardson had 31 rushes for 105 yards for 3.3 ypc. Their "by committee" approach with Willis McGahee, Chris Ogbonnaya, and Bobby Rainey...3.23ypc. And with more snaps to go around, Ogbonnaya has been able to get more involved in the passing game.

We talkin about a running back that doesn't factor into the outcome of football games here, fellas.

If freaking Bradshaw could stay healthy he would be averaging ~5 ypc. Dude is a beast but forever plagued with bad feet and ankles.

There's stats on espn and there's actually watching the flow of the game. Indy is not asking brown to get tough yards. They're asking him to hit homeruns on high percentage plays and they're asking richardson to get the tough ones because he's the only one on the roster who can.

This week really shouldn't be counted, the offense as a whole was undeniably putrid and 4.0 YPC on a night like that was actually fairly good.

It didn't win anything, got the Colts in FG range and gave them a 6 point lead with 1:55 to play.. Seattle still had a chance to win the game.

It did though. It was key for taking time off the clock in a game where Wilson and lynch were dominating.

You watched this game I'm sure. And you knew that him converting that meant Wilson had to score in two minutes. And not four. If Richardson doesn't convert that, Seattle only needs a field goal with more than enough time on the clock.

i know u want to think its about his inability to get the PB down, but its clearly not the case as Larry pointed out. He is just not a quality back

You can tell he's no AP but you can also tell he's no Joseph Addai either. That's my only point. Indy might have given up a little much but they legitimately upgraded a position of need.

However. If he was only being asked to get tough yards and move the chains in Cleveland like he is in Indy, why are we using the ypc stat as evidence they guy's game is lacking? Why are we acting like him not blowing up in Indianapolis is more evidence that proves he's incompetent when it's also generally accepted Indianapolis' offensive line is a noticeable step down from Cleveland's?

Indy's offensive coordinator still hasn't proven he's competent at the NFL level as well. I think I read somewhere that 19 of Lucks 30 attempts against San Diego were under nine yards, and we're talking about a QB who killed teams down the field last year under Bruce Arians. Now they're lining up guards at tight end and pretending they're a power run team with the worst starting guard in the NFL. Indy desperately wants to pretend they're a physical beast when their best playmakers are all... Receivers.

Bradshaw did just about the only thing everyone in Indy knew he was good for. getting put on IR.

That Vick Ballard statement is a bad joke but I can tell you don't watch many colt games and you're trying to make a point. Richardson is a step above any tailback Indy has had for a long time. As unimpressive as he may look to outside eyes because he's not meeting your top 5 pick production, he's a visible step above the garbage Indy has been fielding of the last 5-6 years. And that includes Vick Ballard, who is incredibly average and is also coming off a serious knee injury.

I'm happy Indy didn't give up a top 5 pick for this guy though. Given what I've seen and knowing how this team hs played for the last three years, whether or not a late first round pick was worth it will be seen.

I'll still pull for the guy because I'm a colt fan but I'm done hoping for anything elite. I hope the coaches throw his ass in the doghouse and make him work to get back on the field.

you guys need to look at over all RB stats. No one is really doing that well. Teams aren't running that much. He's number 21 out of 40 so he isn't that bad yet.

He's also 35th in yards per attempt at 3.2 (which will drop even more after tonight's game is counted).....that is bad to give up a 1st round pick for.

Crazy to see on that list is that RAY RICE has the lowest yards per attempt in the league.
