I talk about the value of the dollar because that is the driving force behind increases in market value of players, and for that matter, market value of anything else. Value of player has gradually gone up correlating with value of dollar. It's the main reason $50M won't happen for a while.

Actually contracts have gone up due to increased revenue from TV deals. Has almost nothing to do with the value of the dollar.

That still doesn't help support any claims of $50 million. The team can make him happy with $25 million. If he asks for $50 million, no team is going to give him that. He knows it, his agent knows it, the teams know it.

No team had to give A-Rod that last contract, but did. Baseball is stupid this way. The Yankees gave A-Rod stupid money when he was nearly my age ... with no reason to do so. And they gave him astronomical bonuses for breaking home run records ... even though they likely knew he was cheating as much as Clemens.

My point is they have always gone up due to inflation, but TV deals are helping the cause.

Do some research before you start making outrageous claims. There is no way that we will see a $50 million contract by 2016. Beyond just these numbers, no team can actually handle a $50 million/year contract while still fielding a competitive team, therefore just completely making it a waste of their money.

Weird, I thought this argument was about Mike Trout's salary, not Stan Musial's.

You are arguing that overall inflation will drive the change in MLB salaries, which obviously isn't the case given MLB player salary's disproportionate increase compared to the median US household.

None of my arguments have been disproved. TV deals help increase salaries, but are not anywhere near the sole driving force.
