That isn't the date. It's just a placeholder because I guess it's expected to come out in the first quarter. March 31st is a Saturday after all.

I feel stupid. By the time I get the game I'll have had it paid off about a year in advance. Things like this don't happen.

Anyways I can't wait for this game still and I hope a ton of VSN guys get it. Should be a lot of fun.

Loved the Twisted Metal series. This one is looking pretty good but I'm not liking how they are adding so much extra stuff to the game. I loved how basic yet fun it was back then.

Twisted Metal Will Require an Online Pass After All

The creator of venerable car-combat series Twisted Metal had hoped that the game's upcoming PlayStation 3 reawakening would not be subjected to an "Online Pass," that single-use code unlocking online multiplayer access to the game. David Jaffe admitted it wasn't his decision though, and Sony proved him right. Twisted Metal will indeed know the code.

The Gamers Hub, getting a look at the game, confirmed with a QA lead that Twisted Metal needs an Online Pass. That means all used copies, unless you're lucky and whoever had the one you bought didn't redeem the code, will have to fork over an additional $10 through PlayStation Network if they want to get online.

In December, Jaffe had argued that the game's heavy multiplayer focus makes it important that gamers face as few barriers to getting online as possible. Evidently, Sony had other priorities.

Yes, Twisted Metal will use a PSN Pass, creator David Jaffe confirmed in a half-hour-long video blog. Skip to about 15 minutes in if you want to hear all of his thoughts on it, but to summarize he's "torn" on online passes in general. He supports them for most games, but opposed its inclusion in Twisted Metal, as he wanted there to be a low barrier of entry for as many players as possible, to let them all experience online play and get back into the series. In the end, "It wasn't my call," Jaffe said. "It's Sony's game, and they funded it, and I respect their decision."

Other news for the car combat game include confirmation of an upcoming demo, and a day-one patch. Jaffe explained that ramming was doing too much damage, especially ramming from a shake-activated move he calls the "SIXAXIS Slam," so the team is fixing that and other balance tweaks in a small patch. There are things he'd like to change about the levels, but that won't be in the initial patch out of concern for long, annoying download times. "We'd love to do future tweaks and adjustments to the game," he said, "and some of those hopefully will be level-based, and those might be a little longer. Key balance issues and some of the bugs

I just watched that yesterday on Qore. The game looks so bad ass. I love the filmed vignettes to fill you in on the story.

Twisted Metal demo shoots up PSN on January 31

During this week's PlayStation Blogcast, on which our own Ludwig Kietzmann is a "special guest," PlayStation Sr. Social Media Specialist Sid Shuman (yay, alliteration!) confirmed the planned multiplayer demo for Twisted Metal would hit PSN next week, on January 31.

If you like your manslaughter a bit less vehicular, you may want to check out a demo for another February-bound title, EA's rebooted Syndicate. It will also be a multiplayer demo, focusing on the game's co-op side, but you already knew that. Who needs expensive implants and cool tech for remembering things? Not you, buddy!

Weapons

Missile: Per single shot, power missiles create massive damage without any target tracking.

Napalm: When launched over the enemy, a napalm canister explodes when it hits the ground, causing immediate damage. To make the napalm fall even faster to the ground, press fire a second time when the napalm canister is in the middle of the air. Fire from the napalm explosion will rage and spread. Drive through the fire to cause even more long-term damage.

Remote Bomb: To launch bombs from the top of any vehicle: Press fire once to launch, then press fire again to detonate remotely. Press triangle to enter aim-mode, and use the left analog to zoom and the right analog to aim.

Ricochet: The ricochet shoots a small explosive charge from a self-propelled cart. The ricochet will bounce around the environment until it finally explodes, either from contact with an enemy or when time runs out.

Shotgun: The shotgun is a powerful, single-shot weapon with short range but ridiculously high damage in a forward arc.

Sniper Rifle: Use the single-shot sniper rifle to aim directly at targets. The longer you hold a target in your snipe before firing, the more powerful the damage. With maximum charge, a straight head-shot results in an instant kill.

Super Gun Bullets: Super gun bullets are an intense but temporary upgrade for the machine gun.
