After the 1st legs, here's my predictions for who advances to the knockout rounds:
Group A: Bayern & Napoli - Bayern is clearly better than anyone else in this group. Two of Man City's 3 remaining games are on the road and they didn't play particularly well against Napoli in Manchester the first time around (1-1 home draw). I think Napoli loses to Bayern but has a good chance to beat Man City at home and Villareal on the road. Plus, Man City has the whole first timer thing going against them, if you believe in that type of stuff.
Group B: Inter & CSKA Moskva - This was a hard one to pick. Inter has looked like absolute piss in Serie A games this season... But they're the current group leader and probably the best team on paper in this group so edge goes to them. CSKA Moskva has scored the most goals in this group by a decent margin. They have Trabzonspur (who they just crushed 3-0) on the road and Lille at home (2-2 road draw). Both games could work in their favor. The group stage finale in Milan should be a great game if Inter and Moskva both have something at stake.
Group C: Man United & Benfica - Man U hasn't played up to standards in UCL so far but you have to believe a team that made the finals last year will advance to the knockout rounds. Two of the three games are at OT, too. Benfica is the current group leader I think they can advance with one more win over either Basel or Gulati. One win gives Benfica 10 points and they have a +3 GD right now, too.
Group D: Real Madrid & OL - Madrid is 3-0 with a +8 GD. No question they are advancing. Ajax and OL are a toss up but I give the edge to OL because the 2nd leg of Ajax/OL is in Lyon. The first one ended 0-0.
Group E: Chelsea & Leverkusen - Chelsea's 7 points and +7 GD give them an easy ride to the knockout rounds. Genk is terrible and Valencia played them to a 0-0 draw in the first leg. I could see Valencia and Leverkusen both going 1-1-1 in the second leg, which gives the edge to Leverkusen who is currently ahead in the group.
Group F: Arsenal & OM - What happened to Dortmund? Arsenal has two home games and their road game is the last game at Olympiakos and they lead the group so it's looking pretty good for them. I think Dortmund could spoil Olympikos' chances in a few weeks in Germany. Olympiakos then has to play OM in France after that. Because of those two tough games for Olympiakos, the fact that they are already behind, and because I think OM is a better team, I give the edge to OM.
Group G: Porto & APOEL - I hated picking this group mainly because I don't know much about any of these teams. Based on the results so far, they all seem evenly matched. APOEL and Zenit both have 2 of 3 home games remaining and are 1-2 on the table but I like Porto better than either of these teams so I'll go with them for one team. I could easily go with APOEL or Zenit but since I have to choose one, I go with APOEL because they are at the top right now.
Group H: AC Milan & Barcelona - You can't debate these picks, nor do I have to give any rationale.
