UFC 106: Ortiz vs. Griffin 2

Good write up BigPapa, I really dont like going to live MMA events, for one the majority of fans are idiots, sports fans in general suck, but I think MMA has the worst fans

Only time I like going is if I'm in the corner, nothing really better than the excitement when the main event comes around and you're in the middle of it, but besides that I'd rather be watching it on tv, just not my style being in those type of crowds

I very much enjoyed the experience, and I would do it again if I had the chance. But I don't think I would want to do it all the time, even if not just for the money factor. Watching any sporting event live is an experience, but there are always downsides to it. Annoyances. I'm with you on that.

Never had a chance to corner yet. Came close about a year ago when my buddy was offered a fight in Montreal with TKO on short notice, and I happened to be in the area. They pulled the offer since it would be expensive to fly him across Canada. Pretty sure that was their last event. Coincidence? I think not...
 
I didn't feel like starting up a new thread. As much as I think Rumble should make the move to 185, do you guys think he could fare well in the UFC's deep MW division? I've been thinking about this for a little while, but the more I think about it, the more I see Rumble being a middle-tier guy AT BEST in that division.

Because he is doing so well at 170? I'd pick Kos, Fitch and Alves over him easily. Daley might have a shot with his striking skills. If Rumble can stay at 170 with his size advantages, that's where he should be. At 185, I think he'd be a favorable matchup against guys like Bisping, etc

Not because he's that good, but because he's struggled to make 170 more than once and is by far the biggest cutter at WW. There have been stories of him passing out at the weigh-ins at 106.
Dana White's weigh-in day video blog takes you through the Friday before UFC 106. It's interesting to see the fighters standing in line to enter the Mandalay Bay weigh-in area. Josh Koscheck is standing with no Anthony Johnson present (3:40 mark). When asked where he is, Koscheck says he heard Johnson passed out trying to make the weight. When you finally see Johnson (4:45 mark), he does confirm that he had some issues and says he was "dehydrated."

If he did struggle, it's the second straight fight with weigh-in woes. Back in Los Angeles for UFC 104, Johnson, needing to make 170 pounds could only get to 176. Ninety minutes before the weigh-in, he was being carried through the streets of L.A. back to the hotel. It may be time for the 25-year-old to consider a move to middleweight or he really needs to shed some beef and walk around closer to 190 between fights. Yahoo! Sports' Kevin Iole tweeted on Saturday night that Johnson was back up to 200. Once Koscheck started working him over on the ground, Johnson seemed to gas pretty quickly in the second round. Johnson lost via rear-naked choke.

White closed out his workday in the Mandalay Bay Race & Sports Book doing about 80 minutes of radio with MMAJunkie starting around 7 p.m. PT. He also gave away 50 tickets for UFC 106 and then spent another 70 minutes signing autographs and taking pictures with every single person waiting outside the MB radio booth. The Twitter response he got was insane.

I agree that if he can stay at 170 then more power to him, but what I'm saying is that for someone people are clamoring for to move up in weight class I find it hard to believe that his fight career will be better for it since he has struggled against WW fighters and fights don't get easier as the opponents get bigger. As you get it older, it gets harder to cut weight and Rumble already seems to be at his limits to make it to 170.

I don't see him being nearly as competitive at 185 as he is at 170. Even the lower MW guys have good ground games and Rumble really falls behind in that regard.
