UFC Buys Strikeforce

I wouldn't totally compare the Pride purchase with this. Besides the fact the UFC decided they had no way of running the business in Japan, Strikeforce still has TV contracts to fulfill.

Assuming Showtime sticks with it, I wouldn't expect the UFC to purchase any significant contracts and move guys to the UFC. When guys have their deals run out, I'd expect the bigger names to move to the UFC and the prospects or younger fighters to stick in Strikeforce.

Of course, anything can happen. What if Strikeforce in April opens up with Goldy and Rogan with Buffer in the cage?

I'm interested to see how much they advertise that show and how much of a bump in the ratings they get because of it.

Showtime produces the show, thats it, they put who they want, Showtime has a contract with them, thats why Dana keeps saying 'business as usual', when they deals are all done, guys will be free agents that can be, the ones with contracts still will be, etc...just like pride

plus, showtime still would have the library rights also I would assume, they can still promote MMA and show the old eliteXc, Strikeforce fights

Showtimes deal with Strikeforce was for 3 years, they still hav like a year and a half

M-1 still co-promotes, etc..

The only big change I can see is zuffa promoting the strikeforce brand on there other stations and help the ratings, it actually will help showtime for the mean time until the deals are done

who knows, one of the brothers will deal with showtime and they might work out a deal, Dana wont have his hands in it

Dana says the plan is to keep them separate, and it's assumed that lasts as long as the Showtime deal remains.

Coker is still on board, he signed on, and he will lead the Strikeforce brand with a set budget.

The Strikeforce contracted guys will continue fighting there. The UFC contracted guys will fight in the UFC.

When contracts run up, then Coker and Dana will negotiate to see where guys go.

So no dream fights anytime soon unless a contract comes up.

And Meltzer also mentioned that Strikeforce had been listening to two different (including UFC) offers. UFC first learned of the other offer late last year and made up their mind to buy the promotion.

how long are the UFC and SF going to remain "separate orgs" ? i just listened to the interview with dana and he said "business as usual" about a dozen times but i just dont see it happening that way. are fighters really gonna re-sign with SF after their deals are done? the way dana played it off was that zuffa bought SF but its still an entirely separate entity and will remain that way. really? does anyone actually envision that happening. i just dont see SF being a brand come next year.

Strikeforce is dead, as a brand, as a promotion, they can call it Strikeforce until the showtime deal, or even after, it's Zuffa, just like the WEC was Zuffa

If this fucks up the April card and the HW GP I will be even more pissed, you know they will stop the GP because it's not a Zuffa thing to do, actually, I wonder if Showtime has the right just to not do the fights anymore, who knows

This isnt good for MMA, it just isnt, there really are no positives for the fans and the fighters, pay will stagnate, fighters will be shunned, yeah a couple great fighters might jump to the the and give us a good match up, but Dana is so full of shit, lol @ 'we need more fighters', they have been cutting more fighers than ever

It's one or the other W2B? Dana is a great promoter and there's definitely a method to his madness. The guy knows what he's doing, but there's no way he's the brains behind everything. There's a lot more going on behind the scenes that we don't see, there's a lot more involved than just promotion, and the company now is far too large for one person to be credited for everything. That's ridiculous.
