Game 2:
LA was embarrassed game one.
Kobe Bryant made sure that it wasn't going to happen in Game 2. Kobe came out with that mentality that he had to do it himself. Right from the get go, he knew what speed he was going. It was up to the rest of the Lakers, to catch up. Pau Gasol answered that call doing good work on the boards leading the team, he also chipped in 22 on a night where Kobe hit 40.
Where the Rockets lost this game, was on the boards. Yao can't do it himself, Carl Landry came in second in rebound total for the Rockets. The biggest issue though, came with turnovers. Houston gave the ball over 19 times, if you're trying to win a game, you can't do this. The Lakers themselves had 11, to be fair. +8 on turnovers got the Lakers the win tonight.
The the other garbage, the trash talking, bumps, flops, etc? It's playoff basketball, this kind of stuff happened all the time in the 90's. And there wern't little sissy slaps to the back of the head, or an elbow to the throat. Then? They tossed balled up white knuckled fists. So all this sissy back and forth stuff, it's interesting, and it adds flavor to at least one Western Conference semi-final. It's not basketball, and it's not fighting so I don't want to see it, unless you're willing to show me a Brawl at the Palace II. (Guess we would need Detroit for that one, huh?)
Anyways, Things the Rockets did well is match the Lakers for offense. They fought back and kept it close for four quarters, taking the lead a few times. However, the Lakers proved that when the game goes to 100+ the Rocket's don't have enough offense to counter a Kobe onslaught. More good news for the Rockets is having the home court advantage heading into Game 3. One thing I've noticed about the West fans they're not afraid to tell you what they think. I find more energy from the LA/Houston/Denver/Dallas crowds than I do the Cavs/Hawks/Celtics/Magic crowds. The crowds in the West feed the action on the court.
This will more than likely be a flat out fist fight until the end, that is if David Stern doesn't put his foot down within the next 24 hours. I don't foresee this happening, the stuff the 'mish and company let slide in the East, they have to bat an eye to the West. Kobe > Rondo when it comes to ratings, revenue, etc. Dave is a smart guy he's not going to ban his star player from Game 3. He'll also let Wafer and Alston off the hook, D-Fish included. He'll probably issue a warning, or speak with the referees union to hold a higher standard for ticky-tack fouls.
I hope the 'Mish just lets them all go and say scrap it out, one can dream. I'll be looking forward for this series match-up on Saturday, in Houston. If all parties go with slaps on the wrist then good. Game 3 will be another heated match-up and you know those Houston fans are ready to go crazy.
