All their starters are out, of course it looks horrible. Safeties playing corner, scrubs playing safety.

That said, tonight showed me what I suspected - Favre won't repeat what he did in 2009. Age eventually catches up with you.

My thoughts on the game.

-Both teams looked very rusty tonight
-The Saints got the lucky bounce when they needed it
-Childress is a moron for not running AP in the 4th quarter when he was averaging almost 5 yards per carry
-If Shiancoe is the Vikings deep threat, Berrian should hang his head
-The Vikings miss Rice a lot more than the Saints miss Sharper
-If you had told me the Vikings defense would hold the Saints to 14 points before the game, I would have bet the house that the Vikings won the game
-Longwell misses an XP? For a moment I thought I was playing Madden '11

You can't have Favre scrambling for his life when his ankle's fucked... it's too early to say that Minnesota better start looking into drafting a new QB but they better think about it long and hard.

It was really weird watching Favre tonight having no fun playing. I don't think I can recall a joyless game for Favre. He pumped his fist a bit after his TD pass but it was just different. I'm sensing a long season for Sir Favre.

Both teams have some serious work to do..
This game also made me worried about how rusty the Packers will look...could be ugly.

Favre's stats from his first Game 1, 2009:

14 of 21 for 110 yards and 1 TD.

Favre's stats from tonight:

15 of 27 for 170 yards, 1 TD, and 1 INT.

Think its too early to judge. I do think his ankle is still bothering him, and how good he is this year will definitely depend on whether that ankle heals or worsens. He was obviously hobbled, he couldn't evade pass rushers like he did last season, he had a few passes that he didn't step all the way into, and he looked down right scared to take a sack.

I don't care what anyone says, the pictures of his bruised thigh and busted up ankle is all the reason I love Brett Favre. And that laser he threw to Shiancoe in the end zone tells me that he definitely still has the arm. I hope his ankle heals so there's no excuses and he has the chance to play up to his potential.

And like WR said, Vikings need to run the fucking ball. AP is a cyborg. Give him the ball.

That's what they've been saying for the last 5 years, yet he had an above average opening game compared to his 1st start the past 6-7 years.

Age has definitely caught up. It's not like Favre isn't used to skipping training camp. Dude looked like the old man he is.

Again, an uneducated opinion. I'm not trying to troll here, but Favre played better in his first game this season than he has averaged since his early 30's. He has always just played an average game in the first week or two. He made some great throws, made some bad throws and had some guys drop the ball(Berrian especially on a possibly game changing catch).

That loss goes to nobody but Brad Childress and the offensive coordinator. How are you going to get away from the run when AP is tearing them a new hole all in the first half? It's honestly quite embarrassing how bad of decision-making was made in the game, mostly by the coaching staff.

Pretty much a boring game overall, but we got the W and Malcolm Jenkins didnt look terrible which was the only think i was concerned about. Well that and the run D but holding AP under 100 yards, even if for some reason they stopped running him, is a win in my book for the D.
