The Nationals owner, Theodore Lerner is the richest active owner in MLB. The 29 other GMs can't be happy about this, because the Nationals are setting price levels for other players that no one is going to match.

I love Ted Lerner's wallet. I am warming up to this approach too. We have to overpay to get the top talent to come to Washington now but once we establish a winning tradition it will be easier to attract free agents

Didn't say the winning tradition would happen overnight. A 2012 Nats squad with Strasburg, Bryce Harper, Ryan Zimmerman, Jayson Werth, Cliff Lee, and Drew Storen would be impressive

Some baseball people are saying there's no truth the Nats are in on Lee. Others say they want to make a statement. Rumor mill FTW!

As for 2012...I'd have to see more names before I agree.

Unfortunately a 2015 Nats squad with a 36 year old Jayson Werth making $18 million.

Latest is that some team (not the Nats) has offered Lee 7 years while the Yankees remain at 6 years.
