That's fine...but a player to stretch the field is the compliment, not the primary player.

Go get a Devery Henderson type and it automatically fills the need you're looking for as the player to stretch the field. Or go get a bigger wide out to play the boundaries.

Funny enough, the Patriots cut their speed wide receiver on Friday...he wasn't good, but he was the fastest guy they had at the skill spots.

The Patriots should be looking for pieces, not trying to reinvent the wheel.

The problem with Moss was that the Pats revolved the O around him. You can't build an offense around a player like that, you just have to use him effectively at the right times.

Methinks you don't quite understand what a #1 wide receiver is...because Welker is, for the Patriots.

If we're getting real picky, and Welker isn't a #1...surely Jennings isn't either.

Welker is a 4-time Pro Bowler and 2-time All-Pro...I'm pretty sure his status as a league's #1 is cemented. Impressive, and its compounded by the type of wide out he is, as he's not your traditional #1.

The man averages 7 catches a game over the last five seasons.

Go find me some #1's that get that many balls a game. Hint...Jennings and his #1 skill set is in at 4.5 catches a game over the same time period.

Jimmy Graham is a great human being and I have nothing but the best things to say about the kid. A pleasure to talk to and watch develop.

However, he put forth a monster season by TE...but was upstaged at every step of the game by Gronkowski...and Gronkowski is a superior blocker by a wide margin while also having to compete with a top 10 TE and Top 5 wide out catching balls.

I think Gronkowski's injury ultimately cost the Patriots this game.

You look at their best receiving threats tonight, Hernandez and Welker, and they averaged a mere 8 yards a catch. Meanwhile, Hakeem Nicks hauled in 10 catches for 109 yards (10.9 ypc) and Manningham had 5 for 73 (14.6). They stretched the field, they made the tougher catches, they made the bigger plays when they needed to and that is what won the Giants the Super Bowl.

The Patriots defense was not the problem. The offensive line was not the problem. Tom Brady was not the problem. The problem was that Brady could not move the ball downfield and the Patriots could not make any big plays.

I stand by my statement, the Patriots need a big play WR. A healthy Gronk would have helped immensely, but you need at least 1 WR that can stretch the field or make some tough physical catches in today's game.

Brady has been to 5 superbowls. there are guys that go their whole career and don't even get to the playoffs that many times. The fact that the pats were there at all is a testament to how great the team is.

The unfortunate thing about a Superbowl is it causes some severe perspective loss, and regardless of what happened yesterday, Brady was already in the conversation for GOAT and even being at the big dance only adds to the discussion. Greatness is not defined by one game.

Hardly. The Giants moved the ball at will when they needed it most and that was due in large part to the piss poor play by the secondary.

Its pretty ridiculous that we are here discussing a team that went 13-3 because of what their offense was able to accomplish while their defense was considered one of the worst in the league. A true #1 WR would help them, no doubt, but the Pats offense was inept last night because Gronk was injured. If he is %100 no doubt in my mind they win that game. He is their #1 receiver. The only thing that offense lacks is depth (and a bonafide RB but receiving is the topic) but you have all of their #1s at full strength and they are a top tier offense.

Their secondary is a major, major issue. Much more dire situation on that side. And while the Giants converted %45 of their 3rd downs it seemed like they made the most crucial conversions because the Pats DB's couldnt make a single critical play when they needed it most.

Hell, they lost the game vs the Giants in the regular season because they couldnt stop them on the final drive. Brady does what he does and Eli just marched down field with no resistance just like he did last night.

You dont waste elite talent in the slot period. Slot WR is the RF and DH of the NFL.
I already highlighted what he can do. Its not enough to be an elite WR. If you cant go through the passing tree and the myriad of complex routes with the top 1-2 CB in your face then you are a second tier WR.

Steve Smith to throw a midget, similar skill set name out there is faster , better routes, far batter after the catch , and does it against double coverage on the outside. Attitude aside no GM is taking Welker over Smith and I think Smith is the cut off point for elite WRs.
