I think that I play almost 95% of the games I play on PC with a 360 controller. The keyboard/mouse thing is way outdated.

The PC to TV thing is less likely now than the controller for PC games, but it's coming on super strong.

Not really , 1 it depends on the developer. 2. Hot keys ? Its 2014 and people are still playing with input devices that havent changed in 30+ years.
I would love to PC game but yuck at having to be at a desk with KB to do it. What human wouldnt prefer reclined with a good controller instead ?

Fun story, if you don't like the KB, the XBOX controller is compatible with all PCs!

Assuming you are looking to play games with a controller. Playing PC games on the couch is no different then a console.

My PC which sits on the other side of the room run simultaneously on my TV screen and PC screen. You see that cable at the bottom left of the 2nd screen. That is an HDMI cable that runs from my PC and it is plugged into my receiver in input 4. I also have a DVI cable running to my monitor. I am too lazy to go above the room and run it through the walls...I will do that when it gets warmer. I have a xbox 360 controller wireless receiver and and controller. I simply hit input 4 and launch steam in big picture mode. PC gaming on the couch.

i use the same chair for my console gaming that i do for my PC gaming. i simply turn to the right when playing a console. i am not a huge fan of the kb/m control. but not because its uncomfortable. the controller just offers a more streamlined experenice for me. thats why i have a controller for my pc though. I also dont have a good keyboard. I do have a 7 button mouse that i just got and it makes a huge difference

Nice setup JMS , although I fear hulk is often caught vibrating during intense scenes.

The problem I ran into with controllers years ago is I cant use it for MP and stand a chance , and the biggest so many games still require a KB to be within reach for menu options. Maybe thats changed ?

It shouldnt be much different...run it at 1080p just like your PC. Some monitors are sharper then TVs so it may look nicer on the monitor.

No it has not...DO NOT play multi-player shooters with a 360 controller and expect to be competitive online. The K/M is much more accurate. Consoles have an advantage in that regard cause everyone has to use the same inputs and run the game at the same settings.

This.. Looks the same as it does on any monitor I would imagine (don't own a monitor).

I just like having the bigger picture. Diablo III is a lot more fun on a 50" display.

Although the resolution is the same, I've always thought the dot pitch on a monitor is closer, giving a more fine image. I could be making this up though.

That's all well and good if you have that kind of setup. But I have my PC in my office where it belongs. I don't want it in my basement (man cave) or living room. I have a netbook and tablets in those areas.

I would venture to wager that more people have setups like mine than yours. Of course kids who only have a bedroom and live with their parents and college kids in dorm rooms can easily have a setup like that. But most adults don't, hardcore gamers or otherwise.

i agree that most people have a separate living room or office. But as a gamer, or a person with a man cave, why wouldnt you have your PC right with your gaming stuff? especially now a days with twitch, you tube and skype...not to mention vsn. its just a major plus to have my pc in a spot where i can turn and look at it while playing console games.

if i recall, isnt your mancave more like a gameroom style room where you entertain friends and shit?

That's fair, but I would say the reason for that is mostly because most people are console gamers. Almost everyone I know that games on the PC has worked some sort of setup that allows them to play PC games in their living room. It's really come a very long way, particularly with presentable towers. My buddy has his tower just hooked up to his TV at all times, and uses his TV as his monitor. The tower looks no more out of place than a game console does.

While I don't think the idea that running games on PCs is complicated is correct anymore, I do think that the main reason people don't buy a gaming PC is because it's a pain in the ass to build one for the average person. Not only that, but if you don't want to put in the time to research it (or don't understand what you're reading -- or don't care to try to understand what you're reading -- both of which are valid), then you run the risk of getting something that you'll regret. It's not an easy thing to do (hence why we've had multiple "help me build a gaming PC" threads here), whereas, the most difficult part of procuring a fully functional PS4 is finding a place that has it in stock. Just my 0.02.

But that's exactly why I have a netbook down there. I never use Skype but I could on my netbook if I wanted to. It also serves my needs for everything else you mentioned.

Yes, it can be a spot for entertaining. It's pretty jam packed with my movi/games collection, my furniture, tv, components, air hockey table, etc. Could I find a spot for a PC down there? I'm sure I could. But even then it would be in an area that would have it;s own desk, chair, etc. It would not be something that I could still game while sitting on my couch which would be pointless to me.

For people that have a real issue with putting a gaming/media PC next to their TV, Steam will be offering a solution. Right now it is in Beta and has been said to be a pretty good. Steam In Home Streaming. This will allow you to stream any game on Steam from your gaming rig to any other device (laptop, office PC, ect) in your house on your network that has Steam. The host PC doesnt not need anything other than Steam installed. You can simply take your laptops HDMI out and plug it into your TV. This works best when you are connected via Ethernet cable but can also work via wireless. There will always be a bit of latency so playing Super Meatboy or Guitar Hero would probably be out. I think this would work great for single player campaign games that don't take super precise timing.

Honestly this may be more complicated then simply putting your PC next to your TV but it is another solution. You could easily stream a gaming like Gone Home to your laptop and plug in your 360 controller and play on the toilet if need be.

it is all in house...watch the first 2 mins of the Linus video and he explains it as other people were under the same impression that it would eat at your data. You're simply using your own in house network to stream a video from one point in your house to another. No different than streaming a video stored on a media PC in the basement to your TV in the living room.
