[Wild Card]: #5 Baltimore Ravens (12-4) @ #4 Kansas City Chiefs (10-6)

I like KC's chances in this game. I like that we are the underdog. The Chiefs play better in that role.

I think the Raiders did the Chiefs a favor by punching them in the mouth last Sunday. With a young team, it's hard to stay focused, especially with the division already clinched. The loss to the Raiders might just be the perfect wake up call.

The last 2 times this season where the Chiefs got their asses handed to them, they took care of business in the following weeks.

After losing to Denver 49-29, the Chiefs beat Arizona 31-13 and went to Seattle and won 42-24. After their 31-0 loss to San Diego, KC went on the road and beat St. Louis 27-13 and beat the Titans 34-14 to clinch the AFC West.

The last time the Chiefs lost the final game in the regular season before going to the playoffs...1969...the year KC won the Superbowl.

In years where the Chiefs have gone undefeated at Arrowhead, they were one and done in the playoffs.

I think the Chiefs match up well with the Ravens. Running the ball will be tough, but Matt Cassel has been outstanding this year, and I like Dwayne Bowe against Baltimore's corners.

On defense, the Chiefs aren't great against the run, but Baltimore isn't great at running the ball either. Flacco has one TD pass and 6 INT's in 5 playoff starts...and he's never seen Arrowhead. Tamba Hali is the AFC leader in sacks and KC's secondary is super young, but super talented. If the Chiefs can stop the run and force Flacco into 3rd and long's...that's going to play right into the hands of the crowd and the defense.

The Chiefs have the most balanced playoff team they've ever had in my lifetime. Marty's playoff teams in the 90's were tough defensive teams with pedestrian offenses and lackluster QB play. Dick Vermeil's '03 playoff team had a fantastic offense, but a defense that couldn't force a punt. Herm Edwards' '06 playoff team backed in and didn't deserve to even be there.

Even though the Chiefs are young, they still have some veterans with playoff experience, and they're a good, balanced football team with a coaching staff that knows how to win in the playoffs.

Arrowhead will be rockin' and I can't fucking wait.

In the end, Baltimore does what K.C. does better ... and has more experience.
The wildcard is K.C.'s special teams which could make a difference.
That said, I'm still taking Baltimore in this one.

If the Ravens put it all together they could blow out the Chiefs, but they haven't put together 60 minutes of offense and defense all year, so don't see that happening. I expect the Ravens will win but it will be close, and in a close game the Ravens experience (Ravens have something like 42 players with playoff experience to the Chiefs 2) will be the difference.

The game being played at Arrowhead means nothing, at least to Baltimore. All of our playoff wins the past two years have been road games. Ravens went into Foxboro last year and whipped the Patriots ass, and that was Tom Brady's only loss there in how long? So where the game is being played shouldn't bother the Ravens at all.

I'm fairly confident that the only Chiefs game dave has watched all year is the Monday night game to open the season. Please let that be the case, otherwise your football takes are just fucking horrendous.

Kansas City and Baltimore are different teams. The Chiefs are a finesse team with a better offense and the Ravens are a physical team with a better defense. So, how in the hell does Baltimore do what KC does better?

KC's special teams could be the wildcard? In which team's favor? I'm guessing you meant that as a compliment for KC. However, the Chiefs haven't done anything on special teams since opening night. If special teams do play a factor for KC, it will probably be negative.

Also, the playoff experience thing is overrated. The Chiefs have at least 20 players with playoff experience...probably more than anybody here thought they had...because it's even more than I thought they had haha.

LOL at playing at Arrowhead means nothing. Yes, the Ravens are battle tested and they've won some games on the road. That's cool. But, they haven't seen Arrowhead in the playoffs. Flacco has a 1-6 TD-INT ratio in the playoffs, and QB's making their first career start at Arrowhead have a notoriously tough time.

I also think it's interesting to note that the Chiefs gave Baltimore all they could handle in a Week 1 loss last year IN Baltimore in a game that was tied 24-24 with 5 minutes to go. And, that was with career record 0-10 Brodie Croyle at QB throwing to bums like Mark Bradley and Sean Ryan, handing off to tip-toeing pussy Larry Johnson in the backfield, and lining up behind an offensive line comprised of a right guard and a right tackle that are out of football now.

Baltimore is essentially the same team, whereas the Chiefs are drastically different. It's going to be a very interesting game on Sunday.

At the end of the day, the Chiefs are a run team IMO. (556 runs vs. 439 passes). Cassel's had a great year, no doubt, but if the game comes down to Cassel, I think the Chiefs are in big trouble.
And it will, because the Ravens' run D will win that battle (again, my opinion).

I also believe the Ravens are more diverse on offence than K.C., especially where the receivers are concerned. You can be sure Ed Reed will be the second man on Bowe all game ... and I just don't see where K.C. gets its pass offence from if Bowe is shut down.

The X factor is obviously K.C.'s return game ... and it could make the difference in this game.

The Chiefs could be in trouble if the game comes down to Cassel. I agree. I'm worried about that. Luckily for the Chiefs, they haven't had to worry about that very much with the league's best rushing offense.

I could see Baltimore's front 7 stifling KC's running attack, but I could also see the Chiefs having success running the ball. The 49ers are ranked just one spot lower than Baltimore in run defense, and the Chiefs ran for 207 yards. Jamaal Charles averaged over 8 yards per carry.

Also in that game, Dwayne Bowe was held to 2 catches for 61 yards. Who picked up the slack, you ask? Dexter McCluster, who is quick enough to win 1-1 match ups, was the leading receiver with 3 catches for 69 yards, including a 31 yard TD catch and run. Tony Moeaki, who is good enough that he reminds KC fans of Tony Gonzalez, chipped in with 4 catches for 44 yards, including an incredible one handed TD catch.

Jamaal Charles is also a dangerous receiver out of the backfield, averaging 10.4 yards a reception, which is really good for a RB. He's a mismatch on Baltimore's LB's.

KC's return game hasn't done anything since week 1. Javier Arenas is the main returner, and he averages 21.2 yards a kickoff return and 8.3 yards per punt return. Go to nfl.com and see how far down he is on the list. You have to go to the 2nd page. McCluster's kickoff return average is EVEN WORSE. But, he does have a nice punt return average, but the problem is, he's only had 13 opportunities all year. So, could he be a factor? Yeah, I guess, but it's not very likely.
