WVU Officially Joins Big 12

Back on topic, I don't see what WVU is gaining. They are going to a much tougher football conference, but a less prestigious basketball conference. And the travel is going to be brutal for all their sports teams. It will be interesting to see how WVU football competes against the better Big12 teams.

Its like WVU jumped off the ship when it was taking on water...but they didn't wait to see if the ship could be saved. Might be a tough swim for WVU.

I have heard some rumblings that if the Big XII expands back to 12 members, USF will be invited to join. I hope to God this happens. Otherwise we are stuck in a horseshit conference with Houston, SMU, UCF, Navy and Boise State. BSU would only be the saving grace to hold onto a possible AQ status.

Luck and Clements (and mostly, the fanbase) only care about football, and the schools Marinotto was talking about bringing on to replace Pitt and Cuse didnt sit well with either... Holgz has an extensive recruiting background in Texas, so they figure he can make up some ground there... As for the conference being tougher, I have no doubt in my mind we will at least by on the level of Okie State...

The Big East should just go back to being a basketball-only conference. Trying to replace schools like Pitt, Syracuse, & West Virginia with schools like Air Force, Houston, and SMU isn't really going to lift the Big East back to Automatic BCS qualifier status. And by letting in these non-geographic, lame basketball schools into the conference is just going to hurt the existing basketball schools.

The Big East should allow the UConns (if they don't go to the ACC) and Louisvilles to remain in the Big East for basketball, and then they should pick up some other basketball-only schools like Xavier, UMass, etc.

Not gonna happen. If ND joins, they join in all sports. ACC commish Swafford already commented on this.

Tough talk now but who knows. I could see ND joining and playing a "soft" ACC schedule of 3-4 games a year too if things shake out a certain way.


Honestly if ND joined the ACC for all sports I'd be for it. The only rivalries I care about preserving are USC and Michigan. I'd gladly trade the MSU and Purdue rivalries for a new ND-Miami and ND-F$U annual or semi-annual series.

Frankly I don't really know how much leverage ND has. They need the Big 10/ACC far more than we need them at this point. They're the ones stuck in a dying conference.

Unless that is, they're willing to sacrifice their Olympic sports for football. (Doubtful)

The ACC makes too much sense for them in basically every aspect but "geography" to not join.

If ND isn't committed to the ACC in one form or another by the end of the calendar year I'd be shocked.

The ACC divisions are already fucked to all hell and have no geographical basis. I still don't think anyone knows which teams are in the Coastal and which are in the Atlantic.

there was no saving that ship, the schools they were looking at were not going to keep the conference competitive with the other conferences. The ACC and SEC told WVU no the big12 said yes. its a great move for WVU given what options they had.

notre dame to ACC is about the dumbest idea in all of this expansion talk. if i were the b10 and notre dame joined the acc id have the schools end their rivalries once the contracts were up. yah i would also want to ditch plaing MSU every year if i was notre dame considering they are 5-10 since holtz bolted not to mention dropping 6 straight at home in the series, when MSU had clowns for head coaches.

this never happened... and there was actually a contingency of the SEC east schools (plus Bama) who wanted WVU instead of Mizzou... as for the ACC, UNC and Duke are the sole reason we arent in the ACC, as they were the reason we were blackballed last time (and really VT was too, until UVA and the politicians got involved)...

The only rivalry that really means dick in the Big10 in the end is Michigan. Michigan State and Purdue don't really mean a hell of a lot.

I can tell you right now the only rivalries that Notre Dame really worries about preserving during a conference move are USC and Michigan. Michigan State would be nice to keep but won't be a hinderence in a move.

Notre Dame will gladly trade games against Michigan State and Purdue for games against FSU, Clemson, Wake, Georgia Tech, Maryland, Pitt and in recruting hot beds in the southeast, the carolina's, mid atlantic region(including Pennsylvania), etc. Notre Dame keeping their rivalry with USC helps keep them relevant out west. Mix in Stanford every once and a while(maybe alternate Stanford with Michigan every other year) and Notre Dame will be fine with the ACC.

LOL at a MSU fan acting high and mighty about the ND rivalry. The last game that meant anything to either team ND "won"............over 40 years ago...I guess the 1988 game meant something since ND needed that to go undefated and win the title but whatever) There have been some good games in between(2005, 2006, 2002, 2001, 2010) but overall Michigan, as usual, is more important than Michigan St. By the way, ND won this year so the streak of home losses is over.


If the Big10 told Michigan to drop ND they tell the Big10 to fuck themselves. Michigan and ND just had the biggest crowd in Michigan history this year and the last 3 games have been fantastic.

The ACC for ND makes a hell of a lot of sense for Notre Dame, football wise, basketball wise, academically, and olympic sport wise as well.

i posted in the thread you bumped so as not to take away from the WVU stuff. citing michigan stadium attendance records is pretty weak argument as the stadium has gone under renovation and if they want to break their records they just sell more tickets since its all bleachers seats anyways their second largest crowd was home opener 2010 when they played connecticuit, they sold more seats because it was a night game, they could break it again at the end of the year when they play OSU.

Tell the Michigan team, Michigan football etc that the Notre Dame game this year wasn't amazing. The Michigan-ND rivalry is vastly important to both schools and much more bitter than MSU-ND.
