checkpoints, unlimited saves and easy mode has made gaming so pussified and unchallenging it's not even fun half the time anymore. heaven forbid you have to do something over again! you must have went through multiple NES consoles back in the day....back when games were legit.

i hate that just about every game has to be beatable by everybody within 2 weeks of having it or else it's frustrating and/or shit.
I dunno. On one hand I agree, but as a child of the Nintendo era, I think games becoming beatable is a good thing. I don't want to lose my temper over and over again, scream, or ever witness my brother actually BITE a controller again, for the rest of my life. I don't think beatable games is a sign of the game industry getting worse, it's a sign of it getting better. Most of the original Nintendo games that are known for their insane challenge (I'm looking at YOU Battletoads) are known for that because of poor game design.

      Battletoads/Double Dragon FTW

I'd say they've strewn to far from the challenges of the NES era to today.

Most action/adventure games are games not worth purchasing because you rent them, beat them and return them before you even get to the weekend.

Like for example take Double Dragon 2. To beat that game, hell just to have a chance at the end of the game. You gotta never fall down a pit, lose little health in tough battles, you gotta bring your A+ game to the table or that game will fuck you in the ass. You run out of lives? You start the fuck over.

Today, you have a game like Uncharted 2. Do what the game tells you to do, you don't have to worry about "life" or "lives" or "continues". If you die, you'll be warped back to 30 seconds before that spot and do it again. You can suck fat dick all the way through the game and it's only gonna take you a couple hours longer than everyone else, so where's the challenge?

My biggest problem is probably that I've always been a gamer and I'm far better than the average player. So my opinions are skewed I guess.

i agree with you kg....a game like mario bros had the same style. If you died you did it over again. But with this game its a little different. There is so much riding on your death that when it happens it just adds to the difficulty of the game. Now i lost everything, and i have to spend another 1-2 hrs getting back to where i just got killed.

whats wrong with having the option? most games provide the option to play it at this difficulty. So if people want that challenge they can play at that level. But others, want the option to play a more relaxed difficulty.

This is why a game that should be in the top 5 and blowing away sales is only in the top 25 and has average sales. thats what the devs wanted and its still a great game. But the frustration levels keep it from being one of the GOAT

Specifically with Demon's Souls I'd think a difficulty setting would defeat the purpose of what they created.

Cause really, it's not that the enemies you face are the problem, it's the falling off random ledges to your death. Difficulty doesn't save you there.

I got up to level 50, finished most of the levels and have probably only lost 50-75k in souls cause i couldn't get back to them. I personally enjoyed the challenge of having to be "perfect" to get back to my stash. Anytime I had souls I'd simply level up or spend them, so I tackled many levels without souls (so without fear of losing anything) and that made my life easier.

You really just need to slow down, take everyone out one by one if you can and most levels aren't all that hard if you know what's around the corner.

All this talk really makes me wanna just peace outta work early and go hack some fuckin beasts.

Uncharted is a 3rd person shooter so if you don't like shooters you probably won't like those games, eventhough they are amazing.

You should definitely go with Demon's Souls if you are a RPG guy. If you like platformers the two R&C games kick ass. Heavenly Sword is an amazing action game that you can probably find for crazy cheap. It's short though.

Yeah, I don't mean to trash old school shit, I just do agree with Maynard's difficulty setting. Gaming is such a great hobby that I feel like the more people you can include, the better. I just personally want something that I enjoy, and not something that makes me want to break things.

That said, Demon's Souls (I still hate that fucking title and it makes no sense) is the right kind of challenging, not the wrong kind. It's an amazingly well built game that encourages patience and care. Nothing wrong with that.

I also feel like their are a TON more games out now so you don't have as much time to spend on each one. A quicker play through is nice.

I think that is a part of the first gamer generation (I'd argue the 25-35 year olds) don't have the kind of time they did back when games first came out too. I remember being in elementary school and being able to spend an entire summer day playing Final Fantasy 3 (6). Now, it's damn hard to find time to play for consecutive hours at all, let alone an entire day.

Well then why just say get it for the 360? That makes zero sense.

Yes, I have played it. And I watched my cousin play it a ton. It's not a game for me because I don't have the patience for that type of game because I have 325 other games to play.

I seriously believe you are bi-polar dude. One day it seems like you took your "happy pills" and you agree with most logical thinking and mostly everyones opinions. Then it's days like this where you are just a complete douche.

take your own advice. You disrupted an otherwise friendly discussion in the UC thread because you didnt like my opinion of the game. I know you own stock in these gaming companies so you have a vested interest in their success, but you dont have to get so angry over people disagreeing with you

and i recommended the game to him based on the flow of the discussion. He asked for a ps3 game and that he was thinking of waiting until the show came out.....he doesnt like shooters. I suggested an rpg....he stated he liked rpgs. i said get fallout until the show arrives

see there is an entire conversation taking place that you failed to read or follow and just abruptly enter your nonsense out of anger. and your gonna tell me to take happy pills...lmao

Thanked for your brother biting a controller. When I was 3 or 4 and Super Mario World for the SNES just came out, I was playing with a kid from my street and he literally shit his pants because he would not go to the bathroom and take a break from the game. :headscratch:

LOL that's incredible. The best part about my brother biting controllers was when I witnessed it it wasn't the first time. I came home from school one day and the first player controller wouldn't work. I looked down and saw ACTUAL FUCKING TEETH MARKS in it. I was so confused (considering I was only about 6 or 7 at the time).

Then we were playing Kid Icarus I think, and he fell on one of the ridiculously insane jumps for like the 15th time and just went full on berserk. Cursing, screaming, jumping up and down. And then finally, chomp.

The worst part, however, is that my brother is 9 years older than me, so he was roughly 15 or 16 at the time. :chomp:
