Dunno if they still have the free Dragon you can get from DLC through PSN but last time I logged into the game, it was there.

They're pretty good. I haven't found a critter that comes close to the default familiars yet, but I've only been able to level up a fraction of the new guys though.

Surprisingly, I'm having more fun recently with the WiiU than I am with any of my other consoles. Maybe it's the kid in me but I still love Mario games. Playing co-op with my wife on NSMBU and 3D World has been a blast.
