I guess. Far be it for me to say so but if they want to charge for cosmetic things that they pay for I say go for it. I just don't care about the shit and the only people that get "duped" by it are the people that are okay with paying for it anyway and thus not "duped". Just my opinion. Personally, I'd be all for a system where the aesthetics were charged for and the story shit wasn't (i.e. -- charge those weirdos that need different guns in Gears and let the dlc be free) now of course that would never happen but still....my point is, being pissed about charging for extras is insanity.

I think they're upset that Microsoft has hitched on an unnecessary fee in the interest of getting people to buy something they need even less than the actual game. It's pretty tacky, but I guess when there's a dollar to be made we'll do whatever to make it.Comment

It's a horrible, horrible thing to do. It's something that is intentionally left out of a game so they they can charge for it. That isn't cool no matter how you look at it. It's the same as charging for all those fucking costumes in Street Fighter. But again, you defended that practice as well. $45 is an absolute JOKE for a few weapon skins. 3/4's of the price of the ENTIRE GAME for weapon skins? Seriously?!?
At least include these small "bonuses" with the season pass thing for chrissake.
The way I look at it is that these companies are deliberately trying to take advantage of their biggest fans. These are the people that will blindly buy this worthless shit just because it's part of the game that they love. That is just wrong. Sure, they will make money off of it because of exactly what i said, and I know that they are a business. But that doesn't make it right. Ultimately in the long run you're going to piss off more fans and customers than appease them. All these companies care about is how to make more money NOW, not a few years down the line.
Just look at Medellin. He can speak for himself but I'm pretty sure he was big Street Fighter fan. But after their bullshit practices of completely overcharging for costumes and releasing five versions of each game, he got fed up. He's a huge Gears fan too and it's shit like this that might drive someone like him away from the series.Comment

Next of all, It was NOT Street Fighter, it was Marvel Vs. Capcom 3; or rather it was Capcom's handling of MVC3; capped off with the announcement of ULTIMATE MVC3 that drove me to disassociate myself from the franchise.
So with all that said, Fuck Street Fighter, Fuck Capcom, Fuck Micro$oft, Fuck Cliffy B's 9/11 mocking ass, and just for funsies Fuck you Mackey.

Oh, christ. You just love playing devil's advocate.

You call me a devil's advocate, but I'm not. I just don't see the need to complain about something that is optional. Complain if you can't have the full retail experience without it. Don't complain because they're over charging for something COMPLETELY OPTIONAL.
Or just be pissed off because you feel they should be more loyal to you. Whatever. I just won't buy it and something tells me I'll still enjoy the hell out of Gears.Comment
-
Not really. I just don't care, and bitching about something that isn't required to get the full retail experience is just bitching. JUST DON'T BUY IT. If they drive you from the game because of it THAT IS THEIR FAULT.

But that can be argued. One can easily say that you aren't getting the full experience without all the skins. Sure, are skins pretty pointless? Pretty much. But we all know damn well they are included in the actual game and were only "removed", ie LOCKED OUT, so that MS could fill their coffers.Comment

If you don't feel that you're getting the full game without the skins (and I know you aren't saying that, I'm just speaking in generalities here) then don't buy the game. It all just comes back to this sense of entitlement that I don't think a gamer has just for being a fan of the franchise. There are other issues worth talking about more than something you don't need to buy (for example, the naming of the Gears of War Triple Pack -- I know what I'm getting, but that is a tremendously misleading name in the context of the 3rd game coming out). This idea that you buy their games so they shouldn't try to make more money off of you is just unrealistic. And silly in the sense that at the end of the day the final choice is always yours.
And I don't think this really falls under the whole entitlement issue. If we were talking about real DLC like maps, extra levels, etc and we were saying we should get all that, than yeah, that's entitlement. Weapon skins that are obviously on the disc and just locked out so we have to pay for them? Not even the same thing.
It's not that much different than these deals these developers/publishers make with stores. Only certain stores give you certain characters, again Gears 3 is guilty, when every one of the characters is already in the game and on the disc. You are just getting a code to unlock them. And then down the road you can pay money for them. Bullshit,Comment

Yeah, but there are a few things that make this complete bullshit. The most important thing is that they spring this on you the day before the game comes out. So you expect a hardcore Gears fan to say "Fuck it, I'm not buying Gears 3 now" because of the skins? No way. But will they be super pissed and maybe even not buy another Gears game (if there is one), Epic game or MS game? Quite possibly.

Now, if you needed the skin pack to play the game, I'd be pissed. But you don't.Comment

Gonna guess it's Bmore...I don't have him but it's a logical conclusion. He's a good guy on the forum although I've never played anything with him online.Comment
