So I've now finished Asura's Wrath twice...don't know if anyone else here has played or is potentially looking to play it, but honestly, I can't recommend it enough for the right price. I picked it up at an FYE used with a copy of SSX, and with their buy 1 get 1, it only cost me 20. It has been well worth that price. It is just insanely over the top and awesome. Sure, it's really not much more than an interactive story, but for whatever reason that doesn't bother me as much as it did when I played the demo. The story is great, the art is amazing, and their willingness to go all in with the concept that it is a series of independent episodes is both impressive and well done. They even have TRAILERS for the next episode.

Anyway, if you haven't played it, it's worth it for the right price or a rental (definitely not worth $60 -- unless you're a perfectionist and want to S rank it). It's surprisingly fun despite its frustrating God of War parts (although you can figure those out pretty quickly). I'd pretty confidently give it a 4/5 if I believed in review scores.

Not even a little. It's mostly quick time events with a fair amount of Panzer Dragoon/Space Harrier shooting style element involved. The closest it would come to those games are the worst parts of the game, IMO. B attacks, Y is a heavy attack that has a recharge, A jumps, and X fires "bullet" like things. It's focus is less on combos and more on building your "BURST" meter, which basically initiates the next QTE. It's not terribly clunky, but it isn't terribly fun either.

It's not overwhelmingly challenging and it's an awesome experience in the end, but I wouldn't call it a good game because I'm not even entirely sure it IS a game. They try to shoehorn gamey things in there, like records, times, "battle points", and grades, but that's kind of all just silliness in the end. So yeah, it's a good experience worth a go for less than 30 bucks I'd say (but only then if you're okay for spending 30 bucks on 6 or so hours of entertainment).

The Giant Bomb guys have been slobbing on it;s knob for a few weeks. I'll check it out when it's sub $20.

But what do you mean by the bolded part?

Sorry, that was a bit ambiguous because of the QTE parts...I think I focused on it a little more in my response to Med....basically, there are third-person "combo" style action sequences that reminded me of God of War. Just that there aren't really combo's and it's kind of a weird part that feels forced in to increase the game length. Also, they're only really frustrating when you're up against some of the bosses that are just WAY overpowered and WILL kill you if you just try to treat it like that kind of game. So yeah, it sends a confusing message and leads to some frustrating segments.

That being said, they're never really long enough to distract from the overall experience, or at least they weren't for me. I hope that you like it when you play it. I will warn you, there are some very Japanese aspects about it (after all, it tries to basically be a video game anime series) and it definitely seems like they're going in a seriously gross direction, even for Capcom, with the DLC. Just two things that I know bug you as a heads up.

Oh, weird thing too...there is a sound bar. Like, as in, there is one bar that controls the volume of all sound. It is a little strange, mostly because while the music is great, the action and sound effects literally drown out ANY voice work at all. It's a strange choice for such a cinematic game, because it will also be in moments where you can't exactly spend your time reading the subtitles because of all of the insanity going on on screen.

I just lost almost all the interest I might have had in the game. Listening to the Giant Bombcast from 04/03 they implicitly describe how shitty the ending is because Capcom (how surprising!) withheld the actual ending for the DLC. Fuck that noise.

Eh...it isn't that bad. There is a very natural ending that you can only get on your first playthrough which has a satisfying and logical conclusion. Then you can go back and unlock the "true" ending as they call it that then builds to a cliffhanger. It's not nearly as bad as they made it sound. It was just as natural a way to build to DLC as they could. It's not an unheard of concept...they're just doing it with DLC instead of an entire new game years from now.

Changes nothing really. Essentially all they did was what MGS did for 3+ games. Only their ending will come through DLC instead of being drawn out over the course of a huge number of games.

Also, don't judge just on the demo. It's overall package somehow seems to beat out its shortcomings in my opinion. But yeah as I still said a rental or buy for less than 30 would be ideal.

We need to set a date to go through the Rage co-op levels. I always seems to be online when you're not.
