The company may also see the ongoing success that developer Valve has had with games like Team Fortress 2, which recently began selling in-game goods to an audience willing to spend, and want some of those dollars.
Taking cue? So, does Activision plan to put out a game, not charge a monthly fee for it, have dozens of updates and add-ons for free before they decide to charge for items?
I put the game in for the first time in months yesterday, and in my first match went 17-1 with 1 bomb plant and 1 defuse in Sabotage. I jumped in middle of the match, defused the bomb with 3 seconds left, carried it a ways, then died. Then i just said fuck all of you and raped the other team, planting it FTW.
Video game players seeking to make a quick move up the ranks in Activision's first-person shooter Call of Duty: Black Ops might want to prepare for this weekend.
With the launch of "First Strike," the opening set of downloadable maps for the game's multiplayer and zombies modes, studio Treyarch is hosting a "double XP" weekend this Friday through Sunday.
The "double XP" event will be available on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC, according to a tweet from Treyarch community manager Josh Olin.
During matches in Black Ops' multiplayer, players can earn twice as many experience points during matches.
"First Strike," which is available only on Xbox 360, features four fresh multiplayer maps and a new environment for zombies mode starring undead monkeys. That is not a typo.

I just spent 4 hours playing zombies looking for all the Easter eggs. The zombie forums is going nuts because apparently there's a secret room you can access after playing the hidden secret game. It was tough doing everything but then we had t stop because the next step required 4 people and we only had 3. Pretty fucking sweet though. Sweet ass map and the story you can scrap together through radio's and previous maps make it even better.
