Now do I have a problem with the idea itself of seeing little commercials before watching something on espn, yah I hate it on youtube but I have to stop and think if it wasn't for that advertising revenue I highly doubt youtube as itself would exsist any longer and I have to think that is the same reason microsoft along with the companies who are actually supporting this are doing it.
The other point that seriously bugs me is that MS constantly tries to blow smoke up everyones ass by saying "We revamped the Live dashboard to streamline the experience for you the consumer!" Go fuck yourself. No you didn't. You changed the dash so that you had more real estate for ads. And now they want to go further. What's the next step? An ad before your game boots up?Comment

Yeah, but Youtube doesn't charge you a yearly subscription, which is the main point. If Live was free, by all means, litter the thing with ads so that you can 1) Make money because you're a business and 2) Make money to help support the service and expand it.

Your the only one that seems to have issues with the dash and this has been covered greatly. At this point its not our problem you can't figure it out. On the flip side of this for us people that don't have a problem with the improvements to the dash a lot of the ad revenue they've gained from said ads has allowed them to sink more money into live's dash and its back end. Its really a win situation for the avg. gamer but your still stuck on that old idea that paying for something should give you ad free content.

Does more advertising mean a cheaper live subscription then?
Thought the point of gold was to help maintain the live service. If advertising is now gonna help pay for it will we as customers see any benefit?Comment #11 by LavaLampBamboo

I suppose this would be better if it then resulted in Xbox Gold being free. I'd be happy with a few ads here and there if I wasn't paying for the service.
In fact, wasn't that a rumour a few years back, that they were going to make Silver multiplayer as well, but you had to put up with adverts?Comment #155 by ash356

Can I just say, all these people sarcastically claiming 'ADS ON A PAID FOR SERVICE? LIKE TV SUBSCRIPTIONS? WOW, THAT'S NEWS', are generally just being the Devils advocate, for the sake of, well, being a devils advocate.
Maybe ads would be fine, if MS weren't already making us question as to why we actually pay in the first place. Let's list:
Crap member 'perks', i.e. the ****ty DOTW we've been encountering recently.
Barely any exclusives anymore, in comparison to PS3.
Having Kinect shoved down our throats all the sodding time.
Increased prices on every DAMN thing on the marketplace.
Oh, and servers being taken down after just one year by EA. Which is exactly what Gold is supposed to prevent.
... and the list goes on.
Frankly, if Microsoft actually made us feel like we're still getting something from our Gold, we'd likely all be happy. But we're pretty much just getting ripped off nowadays.
But yeah, it's just me.
I also found it funny that when I pointed out to Seth how the past several weeks the Giant Bomb guys have been complaining about how difficult it is to even find content on the service, he worth it off as "I really don't listen to what they say anymore, their stories about non-gaming are more interesting." Really? He tried to play it off as if the GB guys are some of the most popular and well respected guys in gaming journalism. If they would've said they love it and have no problem with it he would've been pointing out how wrong I am for my thoughts on that matter. Funny how that works.Comment

Except not at all. Every gaming outlet the world over complains how shitty it is now. Giant Bomb, Games Radar, Joystiq, Kotaku, you name it. Hell, during the podcast I did with the 40 Cast guys last night one of the hosts mentioned how bad the dash has become. Just because the majority of the people on THIS site don't seem to have a problem with it doesn't mean jack shit. That's one thing I never understood about this place. It's not so much that there are Xbox for MS fanboys, but more like Xbox apologists or people that are overly tolerant of their shitty practices.
And that podcast I would just love to listen to. If its like some of the vsn podcasts I've listened too I'm for sure going to have some moments of facepalming and outright laughter at some of the bone headed points brought up.

Wow, so 40 people thumbed up some website's comment, out of the how many million XBL user base? That's a solid enough majority to win the Canadian Government, but really doesn't do much when you apply real math.
Nobody is being an apologist (I love how spastic you fuckin people get) when they say, "it's not a big deal, I'm not a retard and can use the bloody thing". It's not the world's greatest interface, but it's not overly difficult either. You sit here spazzing "OMG WHY DIDNT I GET THAT ADVERTISEMENT" or about having to click through a menu to find something....and other stupidity like this stuff really fucking matters. It's so utterly pathetic. I wonder if your head would just explode if you ever had to deal with something actually relevant in your day?
Then you got all these assclowns storming the internet to complain, thinking it's going to accomplish anything, yet all they are doing is generating free publicity for the company that has pissed them off. How dumb can people be?Comment

And that was just a small example from just one of thousands of gaming communities. I think the fact that Giant Bomb shits on it constantly is more damning. Brad Shoemaker said "I'll take the PS3's XMB any day over the Xbox dash now. You can't find shit and you get hammered over the head with ads." This coming from the same guy that would constantly shit on how archaic and simple the XMB was.
But of course, what do they GB guys know? They only play games for a fucking living. Obviously the VSD community is far more versed on the subject.Comment

The guy made one comment. One of the guys was actually joking because he hardly ever turns on his PS3 and he said something like "Why should I? We all know Xbox is where it's at." And then another guys aid "Yeah, although the dashboard is extremely shitty now." Not some big debate but it just shows you how the MAJORITY of core gamers feel about it.
