E3 2012: PlayStation Plus Subscribers Will Get At Least 3 Free Games a Month, Says Sony

Sony said they plan to make good on Sony Computer Entertainment president Jack Tretton's promise to revamp their PlayStation Plus club by offering more top-tier games at no cost.

Sony announced they are bumping up their "Instant Game Collection" to 10 free titles this week and a promise to offer at least three more free ones a month. They will also offer a new "Game of the Month" feature every four weeks.

Some of the new games available this week include Virtua Fighters 5: Final Showdown, Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath HD and Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine. PS Plus members will also be able to download new titles for free as well as free Blu-ray offerings including inFamous 2, MotorStorm: Apocalypse and LittleBigPlanet 2.

Tretton first announced the changes at Sony's E3 press conference earlier this week and awarded everyone in attendance with a free year voucher for the service. The rest of us will have to pay either $17.99 for three months or $49.99 a year.

Survey Hints at New PS Plus Features

The survey reads: “Imagine that as part of PlayStation Plus, every time you bought a game on either PS3 or PS Vita, you would be entitled to get the game on the other console absolutely free. So, if you bought Resistance on PS Vita, you could download Resistance on PS3 for free. Or if you got FIFA on PS3, you could download the PS Vita version for free.” The Resistance analogy is a little strange since there aren’t literal analogs on both the console and handheld like there is for FIFA, but it seems the focus is more on the idea than anything else.

A third question asked Mr. Latham to score how interested he’d be in buying various PS3 games in different formats, either as a “standard” Blu-ray or digitally via the PlayStation Store for a discount.

Survey also indicated a Gran Turismo Vita version...but the part that intrigues me the most is PS3/Vita deal where if you bought a PS3 version of a game you'd get the Vita version for free or vice versa. If that's as good as it sounds then I'm at this.

This will be my first LEGO game and quite honestly, the only one that interested me. Reviews have been good and I love how they added voice acting to it!

I will say this looks to be the first time in at least a month I didn't buy something off the PSN, while in that same stretch haven't bought a single thing off the XBL marketplace. It used to be the other way around.

I just updated my excel sheet with my expenses on the PSN. Fun Facts for you guys.

                            - I've Spent a total of $232.14 on PSN/PS1 Games (I'm not counting PS3 or PS3 DLC)
                            - The average amount I spent on a game is under $4
                            - I've gotten 32 games for free
                            - If you take away the free games, I spend about $6.25 for a game on the PSN
                            - I have never bought DLC for a downloadable game
                            - The most I've ever spent on a game is 14.99 (Braid) *Not counting the Walking Dead season pass*
                            - I've spent $10+ on only 5 games (Braid, Burn Zombie Burn, Zombie Apocalypse, Super Stacker and just today, PAYDAY) So yea that is very rare for me
                            - Of the 69 titles I have, I've technically only beaten 3 of them.
                            - The best game I own that nobody knows about is HOARD.

I'll update the 360 one tomorrow or later tonight.

IGN gave LEGO Batman 2 an 8.5:

Other than the mini-map not zooming in and some pop-in when you reach an objective faster than the game can load it, the game sounds awesome.

Word is, the Vita version is a shitty DS port though
