One thing I have learned is that I either need a roku box or a tv that can directly link to the internet so I can watch Netflix and MLB.tv. The 2 apps needing to rely on PSN kinda screws the works, when PSN goes down.

It can remain as free a service as it ever was to begin with, Sony just hides the cost to the consumer in the cost model for the console, accessories, game and PSN purchases. Specifically charging for access to it will not change anything. What they need to focus on is the overall security of their network. If they had spent as much on that in the past few years as they did their army of corporate attorneys to sue people and harass homebrew enthusiasts, PSN would be up and running today.
Hopefully they have learned a valuable lesson.sigpicComment

It seems like PSN might be up very soon. The official PlaystationNL Twitter account just posted this new information that is sure to please PS3 fans. According to them, PSN is being tested by select individuals across Europe, US and Japan.
A rough translation produces this:
@snickel86 at this moment a select group is testing the network . Territories= Japan (Asia), Europe & America.
This means, Sony is just making sure that everything is in order and would soon begin carrying out resumption of service across all its territories.
We’ll send Sony an email and see if they will offer us an comment.
The Playstation Network was hacked last month and Sony has since taken it offline to ensure the safety and security of its users. They’ve also confirmed that the intruders had managed to steal their database containing the personal details of the 77 million odd PSN account holders.
Looks like the Brink owners won’t have to stay offline for much longer.Comment

Not buying it. All we get is rumors and speculation. Sony can't even give us a fucking date yet. Why are they going to tell some asshat on Twitter anything worth listening to? You could say they've been testing the network for 2 and a half weeks now.Comment

I love you Bill, but this theory makes absolutely no sense... the 360 is the same price for everything, is it not? I'm pretty sure a new release costs $60 on both systems. Controllers are both around 40$. PSN games cost the same on XBL. A comparable 360 with the hard drive costs the same as well.
If you want to compare PSN to XBL, just think of it as Sony using online gaming as a break even venture with some profits to be made from DLC and partners like Netflix while Microsoft bends you over for $50 a year on top of the profits they get from all of the above content.Comment

It makes perfect sense. No corporation does anything for free. Everything going out the door has a cost associated with it that is tied to something that the company receives revenue for in return.

Jesus, since PSN's been down, I've played like 20 hours of mario tennis for the gbc, and final fantasy tactics for the gba.
