I just realized that I never finished the Thieves Guild in Oblivion. I'll have to do that before Skyrim comes out.

when i played this back in 06 i was a noob to the entire RPG genre so the scope of the game and the meaning behind the skills ect ect really were beyond what i felt like dealing with. Now that i am more experienced with RPGs i have a better feel and understanding for an RPG like this one. i do still feel a bit lost now that im in the world

any tips on what to do as a starting point. im playing as a mage so finding the mage guild will be nice

You can fast travel to all city gates whenever, and the smaller locations once you reach them. Go ahead and begin the main quest for now, then I'd say begin the Mage's guild quests after you "find the heir".

Yeah doing the 1st few story missions, then hitting up a guild like jhen said. Guild missions lead you into other stuff, and you'll run into random other side missions while doing those. Also early on, walk/ride your horse everywhere, you'll run into more cool stuff that way.

Finishing the thieves guild makes sneaking/stealing so easy, and you get an item that essentially makes you a diffrent person, so when you take it off, any crimes you committed with it on don't count against you.

any tips on leveling up? im 14 hours played and still just level 2. i did a few of the beginning missions stopping the main quest after find the heir

did a few side quests and 2 parts of joining the mage guild.

is leveling up just a slow go in this game? yes i have slept when i am supposed to.

if i remember, this game allows you to level up your skills just by using them...is that right?

Yeah you just have to do stuff. 1st time around i got alot of levels by doing thief type stuff, sneaking around, picking locks, that kinda thing. But you have to actually DO stuff to get your level up. If you want your sword skill to go up sword fight, bow skill to go up shoot stuff, ect. So really how fast you level depends on what your doing.

because of enemy scaling, don't rush leveling up.

i.e. don't go around jumping like a retard and leveling up acrobatics, or you basically are going to fuck yourself.

It's not really a fantasy role-playing game unless it ships with a map, preferably cloth, charting the mystical, magical regions of such and such. Thankfully, Bethesda Softworks won't leave aficionados of the cloth map wanting with The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.
