Don't ever sell your thieves guild armor. You can never get it back so you can't beat the quest.

Its official... Alchemy at a high level is epic. Single best way to make money in the game. I started buying up everything useful from any herbalists in holds I visited, plus the stuff I found when adventuring. So I went on a potion-making spree tonight, focusing on the most valuable potions first. Not only got my Alchemy up to 93 (from about 83 when I started the spree) but am making a ton off the potions sells. I've sold about 2/3 of them so far and made 15k gold. More, really, as I cleaned out almost every merchant I went to of anything I could use, so they had more gold to buy potions off me. A few of the potions are worth over 1k apiece and a lot are worth 500-750 gold. So the tough part is traveling around to merchants to sell them. Time consuming. But oh so profitable.
I'm not even really maximizing things yet, either. I buffed up some items awhile back to make more potent potions but could do a lot better now. Just haven't bothered yet.
Alchemy isn't like Smithing, where the skill increase you get for each item is the exact same regardless of item. The skill increase you get is based on the value of the potion created. So it pays to focus on the more valuable potions, every which way. You also want to use the 5 main perks to increase the potency of your potion - again, it will help you level faster. Using enchanting to buff some items provides another slight boost.Comment

i found the book in arcadia's shop and it had some stuff in there but when i used things like the deathbell it didn't seem to do anything more to the potion, unlike what it said in the book (i believe saying it helped enchanting)
i think right now my alchemy is at 34 or 35Comment

I cheated as well. Mainly used this wiki page:
Main article: Alchemy (Skyrim) Alchemy is effective for leveling, making money, and crafting strong armor and weapons when paired with Enchanting and Smithing. Many Alchemy Vendors in Skyrim, once befriended or invested in, will allow certain ingredients from their shops to be taken without cost or consequence. The following quests will allow this: Arcadia's Cauldron (Whiterun) – Deliver the Frost Salts provided by Farengar Secret-Fire to Arcadia The White Phial (Windhelm) – Complete The White P
it has some levelly tips but also lists some of the most valuable spells. Focusing on those helps all the way around. For other potions, i used an online tool I found (link on the page, I think) to find combinations that would yield valuable results. The tool really helps find good uses for some of the ingredients you find or buy but don't really know what to combine them with. Giant's Toe seems to be the best/most valuable ingredient you can grab.Comment

maybe i just put them in my chest in my home, but i'm pretty sure you're not allowed to remove them as they are a quest item.
but if that is the case i'm pretty happy i've gone around and wasted giants all over the map (one of my fave things to do actually) i've probably got like 20 toes.Comment

Those toes are the key to the most valuable potions. One of the three potions that wiki lists (the first one, I think) was worth something over 1000 gold when I created at my current level. It would probably be worth a ton even at lower Alchemy levels.
I'm really glad I restored the Thieves Guild cause those fences come in really handy while trying to get rid of all the created potions.Comment

Finally turned it back on it's been a while... I think it says 48 hours of play time... I've let it on for hours at a time tho to go do stuff...
LEVEL 38 High Elf
83 Speech
77 Alchemy
27 Illusion
22 Conjuration
47 Destruction
31 Restoration
22 Alteration
87 Enchanting
100 Smithing
17 Heavy Armor
20 Block
16 Two-Handed
56 One-Handed
23 Archery
46 Light Armor
28 Sneak
49 Lockpicking
28 Pickpocket
I still don't even know what the block button is. I started out using destruction spells in my left hand and a sword in the right. Now I rely heavier on the sword and just use Clairvoyance and Healing in the other hand if anything at all. I just joined the Dark Brotherhood.
32 Quests Completed
53 Misc. Objectives
I got 5 Thieves Guild and 5 College of Winterhold quests done, and 6 Dark Brotherhood ones. Every other category is 1 or 0.Comment

i don't know any of my full stats but i'm at level 32 bosmer, however my sneak and pickpocket are both at 100 haha.
i cheated my way to 100 sneak by taping the left stick down and then sitting in the corner in dragonsreach and letting it go overnight, with the guard by the door it required nothing on my part.
and then it was no problem pickpocketing afterwards as i could stand practically in front of them and they wouldn't notice me.Comment

So I finally managed to sell off all the potions I created in the one batch. Made 20k gold. Realistically it was a lot more than that, as i bought out the potion ingredients of every herbalist I sold stuff to, so they would have more gold to buy potions, plus I also bought anything I could find useful from any other merchants. So I not only managed to restock my ingredient supply to a degree, but got a whole bunch of soul gems and such out of it. I would guess I landed another 15k worth of goods, at least. That's a pretty fucking good haul for spending about 30 minutes making potions. Well, that plus a shit-ton longer selling the stuff.Comment
