By the afternoon games, most people had got given up and were just watching OTA or had gone to a bar.

DirecTV has no choice but to add major backhaul to their network in under a week. Depending on how they have their servers located, it could be relatively easy (if collocated in a carrier's facility) or more time consuming (hosted at their location).
Agreed.......but I don't think it's going to take more than 1 or 2 weeks to find additional bandwidth for them.

Greg Rosenthall just published a story about the horrible streaming service this weekend. He was asking for details from people on Twitter early this morning so I was hoping that he would be making this more public.

DirectTV continues to provide disastrous streaming service
Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on September 12, 2011, 12:30 PM EDT

I spend Sundays at work. Given the option to expense DirecTV’s “Sunday Ticket-to-Go” again this year, I choose to pass because it was such a mess last season.

It sounds like the problems only intensified on Sunday, with the new service through Playstation 3 also creating issues. The PS3 didn’t work for customers during the 1 p.m. ET games, but mostly seemed fixed for the late games.

“Customers who purchased NFL SUNDAY Ticket through Playstation will receive a credit through the Playstation Network,” DirecTV said in a statement.

Those who used the product during the afternoon games mostly said it was pretty sweet, although a few readers continued to experience problems. So perhaps the PS3 issues have been fixed long-term.

DirecTV’s Sunday Ticket-to-Go gaffes are a more serious problem. There wasn’t a week last year where the service didn’t have streaming problems. They didn’t offer refunds, just promises it would get better. It never did.

We got reports from countless readers that their “To go” service was unwatchable Sunday. It froze often. A lot of readers had trouble with the IPad app and on their mobile device. Countless others couldn’t get it to work on their computer.

BusinessInsider.com called the service “disastrous” and “embarrassing” for DirecTV. The NFL should be embarrassed too.

The world of online broadcasts is a huge, emerging market that is crucial to the future of the league. DirecTV has the rights to the games online Sunday domestically and they haven’t been up to the task. Imagine if a broadcast network couldn’t deliver a game?

NFL.com showed with their Preseason Live package that they are ahead of DirecTV technologically. While the satellite company provides boatloads of money, the NFL should also be concerned about growing the league.

At some point the league has to consider whether DirecTV is the right partner to accomplish that growth.

I honestly don't know if I'll ever gibe Sunday Ticket To Go another chance,. It was horrible last year. It mostly worked by the quality was atrocious. You could change from standard to high quality but I honestly did not see one shred of difference. The picture was so pixelated and shitty I could barely tell what was going on.

I called back in July and told them I wanted it removed from my account. They asked why and I told them and they offered to discount my bill $10 per month for a year.

Hope they continue to get blasted in the media. The streaming has been awful for 3 years now ( or however long it's been out) . They don't even bother with refunds. Fyi they integrated SUPERFAN 2 years ago because so many were demanding a price break or that it be free. The Togo pkg was a way to charge everyone who was grandfathered into additional fees. People should be doing every thing they can to complain.

Yeah, but Superfan was really just getting the games in HD, right? And two years ago ALL games were REQUIRED by the NFL to be in HD so DirecTv didn't have a choice. Thus the to-go bullshit.

DTV had given many free HD credits to that point. The online streaming was part of superfan along with shortcuts and maybe one other thing.
HD and streaming were the only things they could reasonably charge for.

I hope they credit folks or NFL opens up the package. Tired of non competition for everything NFL related.

Yep....none of those features are available today. No highlights, recap or full game.

Reading reports from people that have paid for the service who are now seeing their $21 credit showing up in their account. You should have an email from customer service when you log on to PSN.

Still waiting for an official announcement of what actually happened on Sunday and what is being done to fix it.

Superfan was HD games, the Game Mix channel, and the Short Cuts replays during the week, plus the fantasy player thing where you could pick players to track and when they did something it would scroll on the bottom of the screen.

All of that is standard now except for the fantasy thing, which I actually miss.

The live in gvame stats feature is gone this year, too.

                              Less features, more money.
