My WiiU prompted me to to download a system update today. Looks like it had been a couple of weeks since I booted it up-

Wii U System Update 4.1.0 Available Now

Nintendo does occasionally have humorous timing, releasing a new system update for the Wii U on 1st April. It's real though, we can assure you of that, and is a relatively small download that should download and install within five minutes on a solid connection.

As always the Nintendo support website provides a changelog, with this one merely specifying more stability.and adjustments.

-Improvements to system stability and usability:
-Further improvements to overall system stability and other minor adjustments have been made to enhance the user experience.

Just how stable can the Wii U get? It's a question for the ages, though jesting aside it's pleasing to see Nintendo keeping active with maintenance on the system. Considering its April Fools' arrival we haven't seen any hidden jokes or gags related to this update, so you can download with comfort.

It's available in North America, Europe and Australia right now, so grab it while it's hot.

Is that what that white light means? I haven't turned mine on in a while either.

Could be, I noticed the white light and just figured it had always been that color even though I thought it looked different. Cool feature if that is what it meant.

Don't know if there is a Super Mario 3D World thread, but I'm guessing that there is not. My girlfriend and I dug deep into that amazing game this weekend. We don't do co-op (it's definitely better than previous Mario co-op, but I still feel like it just encourages murder just the same, particularly when trying to collect shit), we just take turns, and she tapped out in Star World. Since then, I have finished half of the special, post-Star world, and up to now, have all of the flagpoles and all of the stamps. I don't know if my endurance can hold to get all of the green stars and unlock whatever the final (I'm assuming?) thing is, but we'll see.

Just absolutely love the game though. Brimming with imagination and the music is incredible.

The wife and I need to get back to that, although I might need to just finish it solo. She wasn't digging it all that much. She prefers old school side-scrolling Mario games.

Thanks for the link. VSN barely runs at work, so I don't even attempt the search function.

                No problem.

Yeah, I love the game too, but when she and I were playing she was just "going through the motions" per say. She just said she doesn't like it anywhere near as much as New Super Mario Bros U. I think World 3D is much better, but oh well.

That's really interesting. My girlfriend likes the fact that U is 2D (she has trouble with almost every 3D game), but we tried to give it a go last night and we both had a really difficult time getting used to how much "heavier" Mario feels (if that makes any sense). I died like 12 times on the first fortress, and it was making me crazy. Maybe it's just that I got too used to using the Princess. Either way, we got burned out super quick, so we started up Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze. So far, really good.

My wife is a huge gamer. She plays about everything under the sun. She used to be big into CoD (bleh) and is a giant Bioshock fan. I've said numerous times how disappointed she was with Infinite. It's not that she can only deal with more simplistic games like side scrollers, there is just something about the 3D aspect of Mario World that she doesn't like. I think she's crazy though. Ha.

DK is in my WiiU pile of shame too, along with recently purchased LEGO City Undercover.

I found out the white light means you have a disc in the drive.

The 5.1.0 system update for the Wii U is now available.

Wii U Update Version 5.1.0 Now Available

The latest update allows players to transfer data between Wii Us.

Previously, you could do a one-time transfer from a Wii to a Wii U, but there was no way to transfer data from a Wii U to a new Wii U. With update version 5.1.0, a "System Transfer" option is now available. You can learn more about that feature by heading here. Another new update moves the eShop away from exclusively using the GamePad, and lets players use a Wii Remote, Wii U Pro Controller, or a Classic Controller to navigate the shop. Otherwise, the only other update note is "Further improvements to overall system stability and other minor adjustments have been made to enhance the user experience."

The 5.2.0 update has gone live according to Nintendo.com. The big change is that you can now create folders to organize your console and they added an icon for download management.

Version 5.2.0 U, available via an Internet connection, includes the following improvements:

Changes to the Wii U Menu:
-Folders can now be created in the Wii U Menu to hold and organize software icons
-A Download Management icon has been added to the Wii U Menu

                          Changes to Quick Start Menu:
-The Quick Start Menu will now display when the Wii U is powered on from the Wii U GamePad TV Remote
-Options have been added to Power Settings that allow users to hide certain software from the Quick Start Menu

                          Changes to the HOME Menu:
-The design and layout of the HOME Menu has been updated

                          Changes to the Nintendo eShop:
-Disabled usage of characters not used when redeeming Nintendo eShop cards (O, I, Z, etc.)

Improvements to system stability and usability
-Further improvements to overall system stability and other minor adjustments have been made to enhance the user experience

I'm considering picking up the Wii U next week @ Target (for $250). I wanted to know if anyone with the system uses the Wii U Pro Controller? The price tag is hefty, so I might look for a sale/deal before picking one up.

I've read sites showing what controllers the system will support (depending on game) and would rather use a controller that has the "classic" feel. I've also seen people mod N64/NES/SNES controllers to be used but I'm not into modding things. The last thing I opened up was my broken X360 to do the penny trick (lasted an extra year).

I bought two wireless third party "pro" style controllers but have yet to use them.

Thanks. I think I'll put it in my room (if I get it), so I can watch tv and play on the gamepad. I've read you can charge the gamepad, while using it...that's good because I have open outlets next to my bed.
