Microsoft Pushes Xbox 720 Event to May 21
Posted 04/08/2013 at 8:56am | by Paul Lilly

Multiple sources claim Microsoft will unveil its next Xbox console in May.
It was originally rumored Microsoft would let the cat out of the bag regarding its next generation Xbox console at an event on April 24th, but now multiple sources are saying it won't happen until a month later on May 21st. At that time, Microsoft will reveal initial details about its Xbox 720 hardware (codenamed "Durango"), and hopefully will finally clear the air about the always-on rumors that were a source of controversy last week.

However, there is no ruse when it comes to their desire to make a media box. No way that's not accurate.
That's a great way to create a negative buzz about your console. The only way it makes sense for MS to push some of these rumors is if they're actually doing something that most people would still consider bad but not nearly as terrible as always online as it's been described. That way they'd set the bar pretty low for people to get excited for their console.

What console has showcased so far? Sony's.

What is everyone talking about incessantly? Microsoft's.

but a % might be on the fence of which one and these RUMORS might sway them.....doesn't mean once the rumor is debunked, they will be back to step 1. I don't know if I'm looking for a reason not to buy a 720 but I think I'm getting a PS4 before I get a 720 esp. if it has to be online at all times.....and I waited 15 hours outside a BB to buy a 360.

I had my shit pre-ordered, took a week off school. Trudged across the city on the morning bus to get to gamestop early. Not doing that again for some broken down console

Another point to consider, do we really have an economy with people to support buying $1,000 in consoles like we did 6 or 7 years ago? I'm not so sure. I don't see as many dual console purchasers this time.

To be fair the xbox was specifically intended as a trojan horse to the living room. Games were just a means to that end. I think they had way more success with the 360 gaming portion that they anticipated but made so many poor decisions on the "media" side they basically allowed everyone else to catchup and surpass them.
You can have HD streaming content from numerous fantastic to your living room for a fraction of the cost or hassle of an XBox and overly expensive XBL. MS' only saving grace is that Google and Apple still dont understand the living room. Apple tv + App store + a controller would have murdered the last 2 years. The LR is a totally different beast and it will be interesting as to whos strategy may work. It will be hysterical if Sony is the one that figures that out while everyone else is three stooging there way through the door.
Best reason to have a license.

What's the point? May as well just wait until E3 then.

I also just saw something on Twitter saying that MS is 100% committed to tv programming?!?

EDIT: Here's the article. This thing has fail written all over it.

The point is to show off some stuff before E3 so you aren't trying to cram everything in during the E3 presser and to have some momentum heading into E3 (although if they trot this rumored crap out, it'll be backwards momentum ).

You act like that hasn't been done for every occasion on sole announcement since the beginning of time. This year with Sony's early even has been he exception to the rule.

That doesn't change the fact that that's why they are doing this....

Whats funny is it lost that war to the Playstation which was a multimedia machine as well.
