Suspended?
The locker room went from total commotion to so quiet you could hear a pin drop. My heart sunk into my stomach whenever coach yelled my name. I was stared down by my teammates, especially the seniors while walking into Coach's office. As I felt a lump in my throat, I nervously sat down on the other side of Coach's desk. He got up and slammed the door.
"What the hell do you think you were doing boy!? I expect you to be a leader of this team and what do you do? You start a fight with the biggest boy on our team!"
"I didn't start anything Coach! He started calling me out, saying I don't care about the team and such. Those seniors are the ones that don't care. They don't mind when we lose and actually find it enjoyable."
"Listen Ethan. What do you did was wrong; you could have held your anger in. Plus the Bedford Gazette caught the entire fight. What am I going to say to them? That I can't control my team? Bullshit. You're suspended for the finale."
"What!? Coach, no offense, but if I'm not playing, we aren't winning."
"Maybe we will. We'll find out."
"Coach.."
"My decision is final! You aren't playing next week. Good luck during basketball season."
I walked out of his office with my head hung low. Not looking at any of my teammates, I grabbed my stuff and walked out. I felt like I let the coaching staff down, the team down, and the community down - even though I'd only be suspended for the final game of the season. I have all of basketball season and next year to prove that I do care about my team and am not a selfish player. Hopefully once word gets out that I'm suspended, the community will embrace me with open arms when I'm back and forgive me...
