The "award" that Melyssa gave Ethan was the start of a new child. That's the main reason why she said about the award. She knew about not having birth control pills, so she planned this all along. Ethan doesn't know this however.

Endings and New Beginnings

Over the next few weeks, I've been getting more reactions from people of becoming a father. On top of that, I've also been receiving some surprises that completely caught me off guard.

"You're what?"

"I'm coming to Syracuse with you."

"That's cool and all...but why?"

"You're going to need some help up there Ethan, especially when the baby arrives. I'm going to find a job out there, and have an apartment off-campus. Don't worry, I won't bother into your two's buisness. If you ever need a babysitter now, I'm there."

Troy was a life-saver. I was worried about my priorities and how I would handle them but it was going to be a lot easier with a helping hand around. Then a few days after Troy's surprise, my dad decided to join in on the fun.

"Really?"

"Yeah, I'm helping you get a new car."

"I have always wanted a new one, even though I just got the truck."

"Yeah I know, plus with a car you won't have to fill up as much when you drive back here for visits and such. Besides, with Evan turning 16 soon, I can always have him practice driving in that truck."

"That is true."

"The only thing I ask is that you pay for some of it."

I thought about how much money I still had from CP.

"Deal."

My father is the boss of a coporation in connection with the Pennsylvania Turnpike. So with the cash I have, he can also spare a good amount. Plus you add the money I have saved from working and all the savings bonds over the years, I should be able to drive home in a 25,000 something dollar car. The next day we went to go look at new cars at a place about half an hour away. Immediately I was recognized by the dealer.

"Aren't you the kid that won a State title with that small school? Oh what was it's name? Everson...Everway..."

Well he almost completely recognized me.

"Everett?"

"Yeah, yeah; that's right. You're the great receiver that they have. Going to Syracuse right?"

"Yes sir."

"Well congrats. What can I do for you?"

"I'd like to get a new car before I head to college in a few weeks."

"You plan on driving the whole way to Syracuse?"

"Haha yeah I do. Anyways, I'd like something flashy."

"Didn't expect anything less. Let's take a walk and see what I can do for you."

After about ten minutes of walking, I had to stop and do a double-take at this convertible. It was a dark navy blue 2009 Pontiac Solstice, with a drop top. I instantly fell in love with it.

"How much is this Pontiac?"

"Around 24, but I could probably sell it to you for 22."

"Sold!"

"Wow, that was fast."

"Is there any way I can get some orange stripes on it or something for an extra one-k?"

"I think we can do that. Let's go sign the paperwork right now."

Within the next few days, I picked up my new car customized in Syracuse colors. I took my license plate off the truck and put it on the new Solstice; KINGE15. Star athlete needs a nice car, right?

With a day left in Everett, I made some last visits before leaving. The last place I stopped at was a familar spot, somewhere that I spent a lot of the last four years at.

*KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK*

"Hey Breann."

"Hey Ethan, how are you?"

"Pretty good. Can I come in?"

"Definitely. My parents are away right now."

Breann would be the friend I would miss the most. Her smile, her laugh, her personality; I didn't want to admit it, but I still have a little thing for her.

"Why did you come over Ethan?"

"Didn't you remember? I leave tomorrow."

"Oh my, I forgot."

"Yeah."

We just awkwardly sat there looking at each other for a while before she spoke up.

"You're going to be home to visit, right?"

"Of course. And one of the first places I will stop is right here."

Her frown quickly turned upside down when I said that.

"Good. You really don't know how much I'm going to miss you."

"I feel the same way Breann. It's going to be weird when I have something I need advice with and I won't be able to just drive over to your house."

"Yeah...but you know you can always call, whenever you want."

"Likewise Breann, I'm only a phone call away."

A tear fell down her cheek as she came to the realization that I was really leaving. We embraced for a minute as I wiped her tears away. As I said my goodbyes, I gave her a kiss on the forehead which got a smile out of her.

"This isn't goodbye Breann...don't worry. I'll be back before you know it."

"I'll be here waiting. Bye Ethan and good luck."

"Bye Breann."

Mixed emotions were what I felt as I walked out of her house. I was already bummed about leaving Melyssa for a month before she came up to Syracuse, but now that I've left my best friend, I felt like I wouldn't have anyone up there. How were my teammates going to be like? What about the rest of the student body? It's hard leaving a place that you've known for all your life to go to a place that is brand new to you. After six hours of driving, and over 300 miles, I finally read a sign that said 'Welcome to Syracuse, New York.'

And in that moment, the first part of my life ended and the newest chapter was just beginning...
