Empty No More
"party 2night. be there."
Sure, I've gotten these texts after a game before, but that was when I was with Melyssa. Back then I would just throw my phone in my bag and ignore the message, because I planned on going to Mel's house for some post-game "celebrating." The texts finally stopped coming because the sender knew my plans after every game, but I guess word finally got out that we were done.
...
"It's about fucking time you show up for one of my parties again. Bitch been holding you down, huh?"
"Shut up Jay, you better have some good shit in here."
Jay Flava - the life of every party on campus. More than just friends with most of the cheerleaders and cool with everyone on the team; he could probably win junior class president if he ran. It's been quite some time since I fucked myself up and with Mel out of the equation right now, plus our horrible loss to Pittsburgh, I had every reason in the world to get shitfaced.
"Oh don't worry, I got the finest alcohol and the finest women in here," Jay replied with a smirk.
"Damn right, that's what I want to hear," I replied. "Let's find some suckers for a game."
...
She was standing by the keg with her friends, just looking for a potential hook-up. Ever since the day he left, she's been a mess and a lot in her life has been suffering because of it. If she could go back to that day where she lost everything, she would and make everything right again.
"Damn girl, you look lonely tonight," a half-drunken man said to her. "You should let me fix that."
She didn't even turn her head. "Nah, I'm fine."
"There's definitely someone better there for me tonight," she thought.
...
"Get ready to drink up Nick," I laughed as I lined up their last cup. "Woy shoots...swish! No surprise there. Now why does everyone insist on taking me down? I did play basketball here, remember?"
"And I tear up the inter-mural circuit," Jay sarcastically said. "Yo Ethan, what's the deal with you and Mel? You guys done?"
"Long story," I explained. "Basically she heard some shit about me and couldn't trust me anymore, I guess. I don't know, it's whatever man."
"Well there's definitely a lot of bitches here that can make you forget about her," he hinted. "Speaking of which, I'll scout one out for me now, haha."
...
I started walking to the keg to refill my cup, when I saw someone familiar and had to do a double-take. She started to approach me and her gentle smile made me forget about all the past faults between us. I smiled back and when she finally made her way over, all the thoughts about Mel in the back of my head vanished.
"Wow, I haven't talked to you in forever," Britt said, hugging me. "How have you been? Sorry about the loss today, by the way; it seemed like you were the only player on the team that deserved to be out there."
"I've been okay," I replied. "Not that great lately, but it's definitely nice to see you."
"Yeah, I caught a little bit of what happened," she said. "I'm really sorry."
"It's okay...it just sucks because it just came out of no where."
"Yeah I understand. You wouldn't mind telling me the entire story, would you?"
"Yeah sure," I answered. "Let's go find a room upstairs."
...
"So this might sound a little crazy," I revealed with a slight chuckle. "But I'm being truthful with every single word."
"I'll believe every single word," she said with a smile. "I've probably heard crazier shit during my freshman year anyways."
"Okay, here it goes. So I met Melyssa in South Carolina while I was on vacation, alright? Well the year before, I hooked up with this other girl named Rebecca. She was really cool and in fact my intentions the next year were to spend my entire vacation time with her."
"Damn, committed to her that early? She must have been a great girl, haha."
"Haha, shut up. You probably felt like that about some guy at 16 too."
"Don't we all?"
"Yeah. Anyways, I ended up meeting Melyssa the next year and hooked up with her. Then to my surprise, she moved to Pennsylvania for her senior year and we dated ever since. Well...at least until now, of course."
"You definitely got lucky there. So what exactly happened?"
"Well I'm friends with the quarterback at South Carolina, Stephen Garcia. After that game earlier this season, we decided to go to dinner and take our girls out...like a double date, ya know? Well of all people, he had to be dating Rebecca. Now Rebecca and Melyssa already knew each other and weren't exactly friends, so when Mel went to the restroom that night, Rebecca followed her and I guess revealed some shit about me. The last part is just an assumption; I'm not sure what exactly went down between those two. All I know is that I'm without her now."
"Wow, that really is terrible. I'm so sorry."
I smiled and then took a look at her incredible body. Perfect curves, incredible legs, and an innocent but mischievous smile; everything about her was just jaw-dropping and had me wanting more.
"Remember what I said last year after the whole suicide thing last year?"
"Kind of," I lied. "But you can always remind me."
She smiled and replied, "if you ever need someone, I'm here. I always will be." Then she leaned in for a kiss, but I put my finger over her lips.
"Now it's time to test your memory," I said. "You remember my first day here last year?"
"I think so...but I'm not sure what you're getting at."
"I'll show you."
Then I softly moved my hand to the back of her neck and we started making out. Eventually we rounded home plate and that missing part of me that was empty for so long, was finally filled by someone special.Last edited by Woy; 01-20-2010, 12:10 AM.

Woy ought to know to get his player on, again. You don't meet the right woman as early as college... Shouldn't have gotten engaged to Melyssa... as that has already passed, he needs to turn his pimp switch back to "on."
Btw, I have spell-check (Firefox); and I just learned that "tern" is a real word... Anyone know what it means?Comment

Hail Mary
Syracuse Orange (3-5) at Cincinnati Bearcats (5-3)
For the first time since Mel left, I was completely focused and motivated for this game. I was also surprised to see Britt in the stands of Nippert Stadium, which brought a smile to my face and gave me someone else to play for.
With an undefeated TCU still on our schedule, bowl eligibility would most likely be on the line for this game, so I had our team fired up and ready to go. We came out hot on our first drive but facing fourth down and one on their 25 yard line, Marrone rolled the dice and went for it. However, the exchange between Ryan and Doug was off and a Cincinnati defensive lineman picked it up and ran it back to our 11 yard line before I finally caught up and tackled him. They would proceed to score just two plays later.
We pulled right back with a kick return touchdown by Lavar and the game would continue the same theme; Cincinnati would score, then we would score the following drive. However, the Bearcats kicked a field goal with just 27 seconds left to make it 24-21 and all hope was fading.
Lavar brought the kick to the 28 and with 19 seconds on the clock, Ryan threw it to Torian for a 15 yard first down. A check-down swing pass to Doug netted us five yards, but kept the clock running so I ran over to the nearest ref and called our last timeout. There were just five seconds left and we were on our own 48; 52 yards away from an improbable win.
The play was the infamously named "Hail Mary." I jogged out to the line with four other receivers and scanned Cincinnati's prevent look. As soon as it was snapped I took off towards the center of the middle and far right safeties; just trying to find a little seam to give me any cushion.
Ryan didn't have much pressure and sat back in the the pocket for a while. Then he put all of his weight into his back foot and threw his body forward, launching the ball towards me. With thoughts of 1984 Miami/Boston College in the older fans' minds, I got behind the defense and caught the bomb in stride, breaking the hearts of the Cincinnati faithful.
We were still alive.
