Interesting deal. You now have three picks in the first two rounds. With your current wide receiver corps - is there any chance you draft a receiver or two in the draft? Maybe trade down in the first and pick up another mid-round pick?

I have some ideas in mind. If I had to lay out my needs right now, I'd say they are reserve CB, S, DE, and WR.

Don't know about trading yet. If I end up with the first pick, I may.

        I can't wait for the off-season.

Game 6, Year 1: Houston Texans (2-3) and Cincinnati Bengals (0-6)

          31 -- 3-3
          23 -- 0-6

Texans MLB Demeco Ryans steps in front of a Carson Palmer pass intended for RB Bernard Scott to come away with a game-saving interception with just :36 remaining in the game. Palmer had led his team on a 10-play potential game-tying drive that included two fourth down conversions prior to throwing his third interception of the game.

          HEARTBREAKER

Bengals nearly pull off fourth quarter comeback but fall to Texans 31-23 | Team's late rally foiled by Texans MLB Demeco Ryan's late INT | QB Orlovsky has career day against Bengals' porous secondary | RB Scott continues to shine with another 100+ all-purpose yard performance

The Cincinnati Bengals almost pulled off a 24-point fourth quarter comeback but in the end fell to the Houston Texans 31-23 Sunday afternoon at home. QB Carson Palmer's third interception of the day, thrown to Texans MLB Demeco Ryans with just 0:36 remaining in the game, sealed the victory for the Houston.

After falling behind 31-7 with 9:58 to go in the game, the Bengals were able to put together a rally which included two Palmer touchdown passes, one to WR Chad Ochocinco and another to rookie RB Bernard Scott which were both followed by successful two-point conversions. Scott finished the game with 9 receptions for 146 yards and two touchdowns.

After making the score 31-23 with 1:57 remaining, the Bengals kicked off to the Texans, showing confidence in a defense that had not stopped Houston all day long. The Bengals defense would reward coach Marvin Lewis' confidence and forced a three and out.

Cincinnati would proceed to go on a 10-play drive which included two fourth down and long conversions. However Palmer's interception ended all hopes for the Bengals to pick up their first win of the season.

Cincinnati (0-6) will host Chicago (2-3) next week at home.

Scott continues to put up pro-bowl type numbers. This kid is a gem for you. I actually thought it was funny, I was watching NFL Network last night and they were replaying the Pats/Bengals game and I got to see the RL Scott in action. I just thought to myself "gotta see how DGZ's boy is gonna do" - lol.

Tough break though. You battled back and just fell short. It doesn't get any easier with Chicago next week. What are you doing with the scouting feature this year? Are you using NCAA classes or MGDs? Either way, I'm curious to know how you are using the scouting feature.

I'm using NCAA imports. I couldn't do it any other way. I know too much about this upcoming draft to not have it on my franchise. Franchise mode would lose all realism to me if I didn't see names like Taylor Mays, Eric Berry, Sam Bradford, Sergio Kindle, etc. in the NFL next season.

As far as scouting, I don't really have a strategy. I just try to collect as much info about as many players as I possibly can. I just kind of randomly select who I want to scout. Of course I have my "chosen few" that I keep tabs on every week but for the other spots, I just randomly pick guys at positions of needs.

I don't want to get the full ratings on any guys, just little random nuggets on each.

                Weekly Bengals Clips

                ...Hester

                Bengals | FB Hester signed
                Mon, 19 Oct 2009 10:08:25 -0700
Bengals.com reports that the team has signed former Chargers FB Jacob Hester (70 overall) to a one-year $870k contract. Hester, a 5-10 226 pound second year veteran and a third round pick by the Chargers in 2008, lost his spot on the Chargers roster after falling behind FB Mike Tolbert on the team's depth chart and needs at other positions arose. He was released by San Diego in week 4, ironically so that the team can sign former Bengals DT Tank Johnson, who was cut on the final cut date in the preseason. Hester is expected to assume the role of starter immediately for the Bengals though his role will likely be limited until he fully grasps the team's playbook.

                Bengals | FB Johnson released
                Mon, 19 Oct 2009 10:08:25 -0700
Bengals.com reports that the team has released FB Jeremi Johnson (74 overall). Johnson, 5-11 270 pounds, is in his sixth year with the Bengals and has started all six games for the team at fullback this season. "Releasing Jeremi is in no way an indictment of him as a performer," said Bengals G.M. D.Geezy in a statement released by the team. "We just saw this as an opportunity to upgrade and bring in a player that may offer a bit more in terms of versatility as a runner and as a pass receiver out of the backfield. Jeremi is a fine in NFL player and we believe he'll catch on somewhere else pretty quickly. We wish him the best."

Game 7, Year 1: Chicago Bears (2-3) at Cincinnati Bengals (0-6)

                  31 -- 3-3
                  24 -- 0-7

Bears WR Devin Hester catches a 42-yard touchdown pass from QB Jay Cutler to give his team a 31-24 lead with under two minutes to play.

BENGALS BLOW FOURTH QUARTER LEAD, FALL TO BEARS 31-24

WR Devin Hester's 42-yard fourth quarter touchdown reception lifts Bears over Bengals 31-24 | QB Cutler on fire, completes 21 of 23 passes versus Bengals' secondary | Cincinnati squanders first lead of the season in closing minutes

The Cincinnati Bengals found themselves in uncharted waters, leading 24-17 with just over six minutes to play. However two Bears touchdowns in the final minutes propelled Chicago to a 31-24 victory over the host Bengals. Bears QB Jay Cutler's 42-yard touchdown pass to WR Devin Hetser gave Chicago it's 7-point margin with 1:39 remaining in the game.

The Bengals would get once last opportunity to tie the game but Carson Palmer's pass to WR Andre Caldwell into the endzone on 4th and 6 from the Bears' 20-yard line was knocked away by a vicious hit by Bears SS Josh Bullocks, turning the ball over to Chicago with just 0:08 to go in the game.

Cincinnati (0-7) will face Baltimore (6-1) in two weeks following a week 8 bye.

Palmer looked like he had his best performance thus far in the season against the Bears. Scott continues to play above his rating with another game over 100 all-purpose yards. Tough luck on the last few drives there. Seems like if anything can go wrong late in a game on All-Madden level...it will. You're going to get a few wins down the road...you are already playing much better. Looking forward to the rematch with Baltimore.

After Pittsburgh, we have a pretty favorable three game stretch against Oakland, Cleveland, and Detroit. We better win two of those three.

I'm finally getting some competetive games so that's at least encouraging.

Note: The following is a brief summary of the Bengals' November 8th game versus Baltimore. Normal full-scale reporting will be reinstituted at the conclusion of the 2009 season.

                            38 -- 7-1
                            22 -- 0-8

Summary: It was more of the same for the Cincinnati Bengals as they fell to the Ravens 38-22 at home. Ravens QB Joe Flacco had a field day against the Bengals, completing a whopping 17 of 18 passes for 214 yards & two touchdowns. The Ravens amassed a 28-7 lead in the third quarter in which Cincinnati was unable to overcome.

The Bengals running game was never a factor and the Ravens 'D' feasted on their one-dimensional attack. Recently acquired WR Brandon London was one of the team's only bright spots on the day, catching 8 passes for 131 yards and a touchdown.

Game 9, Year 1: Cincinnati Bengals (0-8) at Pittsburgh Steelers (6-2)

Note: The following is a brief summary of the Bengals' November 15th game at Pittsburgh. Normal full-scale reporting will be reinstituted at the conclusion of the 2009 season.

                              27 -- 0-9
                              41 -- 7-2

Summary: In a game that was not as close as the final score may indicate, the Pittsburgh Steelers rolled through the Cincinnati Bengals 41-27 at Heinz Field. The Bengals fell behind 34-6 and was able to take advantage of Pittsburgh's prevent defense to put together a 21-7 fourth quarter run to end the game.

Once again, the theme of the day was the Bengals' secondary inability to make any plays. Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger completed 20 of 25 passes for 255 yards and three touchdowns to pace the Steelers. RB Willie Parker also had a big day carrying the ball for 168 yards and 2 touchdowns on 21 carries.

WR Brandon London continues to look like a gem for Cincinnati, catching 10 passes for 126 yards and 3 touchdowns. The 2nd year pro's 6-4 210 pound frame has given defenses fits and much credit goes to the Bengals' personnel department, namely GM D.Geezy, for finding this diamond in the rough.

Game 10, Year 1: Cincinnati Bengals (0-9) at Oakland Raiders (5-4)

Note: The following is a brief summary of the Bengals' November 22nd game at Oakland. Normal full-scale reporting will be reinstituted at the conclusion of the 2009 season.

                                24 -- 0-10
                                48 -- 6-4

Summary: Lions fans, you may soon be having company. The Bengals fell to 0-10 following a humiliating 48-24 loss to the first-place Oakland Raiders.

After taking a 17-14 second quarter lead, the Bengals watched the Raiders outscore them 34-7 the rest of the way. Trailing 20-17 and with the ball on the second half's opening possession, QB Carson Palmer was hit as he threw and the pass was picked off by Oakland DE Jay Richardson and returned 20 yards for a touchdown and the route was on.

Raiders QB Jamarcus Russell had a career day passing for 335 yards and 4 touchdowns. His top target, rookie WR Darrius Heyward-Bey, caught 5 receptions for 93 yards and 2 touchdowns, repeatedly blowing past Bengals defenders. Getting better defensive backs is without question at the top of the team's off-season priorities.

At 0-10, the Bengals are just six losses away from having the dubious distinction of being the third winless team in league history, just one year after the Detroit Lions "accomplished" the feat. The hot-seat for Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis is at boiling point.
