The Braves definitely could. I'm not sure how many fit your criteria...Garret Anderson is old, but we have two righties in Martin Prado and Omar InfanteComment

I'm skeptical that all of these guys count as "A prospects", but one would likely need to include all of them, or remove one and insert a guy like Jason Werth or something.
The Blue Jays ain't trading Hallday (this year) unless they get an overwhelming offer. If not traded this year (or off-season), next year he'll likely be a "Trade Deadline Assassin" like CC was for the Brewers last year.
Looking through the White Sox list, they appear loaded with prospects ... but also aging MLB players.
The Phils are getting ready to sign Pedro, which *might* bring some pitching help to the squad.
look at the giants too, bumgarner+ would get halladay

If there was a position the Mets could use a prospect at, what would it be?
Thanks for the help Chaz. Going to look into this when I get home.Comment

Despite Garrett Anderson already being 36, I still think I should add one more piece.
Or maybe add on both sides. What other Tigers pieces do you think could interest them? What other pieces do you think the Braves would be willing to give up? I'd be willing to give up a prospect.
The Braves are 35-25, a game and a half behind the Mets for the NL East Pennant and currently leading the wild card race, 2 games ahead of the Cardinals.
Thames can also play OF. A Thames/Anderson swap seems realistic.
God lol, just looking at ratings. Their farm system is a whole hell of a lot better than mine rating wise.Last edited by mfbmike; 07-15-2009, 11:25 PM.Comment

Hm, seriously looking into this now because the Braves are ranked 26th in the league in HR's in my chise. Seems like they can use another power bat like Thames.

We would probably put Thames out in left and let him split AB's with Matt Diaz, but he definitely has more home run power than either of those guys so he'd be a worthwhile pickup. Anderson for Thames doesn't seem all that bad, especially since Marcus is playing like shit for you and it seems as if you're taking more of a "win now" approach. Garret would be a nice lefty bat either off the bench or maybe in the #6 or #7 slot - in my Braves chise he hit 38 2B's in close to 400 AB's, so he's a great gap hitter.
And yeah, lol...our farm system is loaded. Hanson, Heyward, Freeman, Medlen, Rohrbough, Schafer, Hicks, Kimbrel, and all them. Future looks good.Comment

why would they split at bats with diaz when theyre both rightys? im sure theyd rather keep anderson

For two reasons. One, Thames is younger; Anderson is 36. Two, we don't have a guy anywhere on our roster with the type of pure, unbridled home run powder that Thames has. Even if he's not starting full-time, the dude can hit bombs.Comment

Maybe another bullpen arm or some middle infield prospects (either at 2B, SS, or 3B) or a young power bat at 1B. Depending on who you give up you could maybe get one of our young pitchers like Rohrbough or Medlen. Idk a whole lot about Detroit's farm system.

And like you mentioned, the age thing. Garret is getting up there. I don't know how much postseason experience he has, but I'm sure I could use some.
Thanks a ton for the help. I may add pieces from both sides. Gotta explore the trade some more when I get home.Comment

Garret definitely has playoff experience after playing with the Angels all those years.
Oh, and he is the definition of a contact hitter. I was watching the Braves game the other night and they showed a stat that said since 1997, Garret and Johnny Damon have the most hits in MLB by left-handed hitters.Comment

Adam Dunn is a different player than Ryan Howard, mainly because of age, defensive ability, etc. Dunn could be had for a couple good prospects (and good ones) because the Nats have said they don't want to trade him.
There's no reason for the Phils to trade Howard because they actually contend and don't need to get rid of one of their best players.Comment
